General/Other Why do you play/main Stryker

I did one of these about a month ago for Jade to add some good energy to the forum, I feel like Stryker could use one as well.

Stryker is my favorite character in Mortal Kombat, he was the primary reason why I got into Mortal Kombat in the first place, I loved the fact that he was a normal human fighting shokans, tarkatans, spectres, and sorcerers. He was the most relatable character, a normal guy caught in the middle and I loved his normalcy combined with his winpose, backwards cap and machine gun shenanigans.

I never thought Stryker would see the light of day again after MK3, he was never in any games and when he finally showed up in MK Armageddon he didn't feel like Stryker, he felt really hollow as a character, like almost everyone in Armageddon.

When I found out he was actually playable and with a streamlined look for MK9, I literally said to myself, "This will be the first fighting game I play competitively".

I main Stryker because he reminds me of myself, I'm going to college for Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement and I love how he's not a muscle head male character, I rarely play male characters in fighting games because they usually don't resonate with me as a player, but he does.

They really did Stryker justice( yes pun intended) in his move set and design for MK9, his role in story was amazing, funny, and inspiring for his future, though his death kind of threw me for a loop.

He's an amazing character and he stands out because of his normalcy in a game that emphasizes the supernatural. Stryker's got that swag.

I played him cause everyone said he was trash and hated him. That's really the only reason I'm using him. I never played him in the older MK games, cause I was terrible at them. All I did was jump kicks, uppercuts, and specials lol.

I saw an MK9 commercial before the game came out and saw the juggle of gunshot followed by a Roll Toss ender. I wqs always on the fence about MK9 but from that moment I had decided to main him. Then NRS did the showing at machinima (something like that) and performed his Xray, im telling you nothing sound better than the hit of the baton to the jaw and then you hear the ultra sound after that LOL. I wasnt really a huge fan of stryker in UMK3 because I had no idea what I was doing or what it meant to play competitively. I never actually thought about the whole human fighting supernatural part, and I must admit that makes him even cooler. Anyway, there is something about him that also resonate with me. Thus why I've been playing him since day one.

Yeah, that Machinima stream was amazing, so hype. That was the biggest outpouring of content we've seen for MK prior to release in ages it seems. I was like that too I actually put it on auto pilot combos for MK Trilogy when I was a kid...so scrubby back then lol.

Seeing this trailer again over a year later still excites me because everything looks so stylish and amazing. Stryker gets a lot of awesome moments in this video in addition to his awesome combo.

I've only played a bit of Stryker. (when I was looking for a main I almost played everyone...) But I dropped him because I wasn't all that great with him. (mind you, this is before my TYM days) But I actually want to pick him up. (thanks to Espio872) He looks fun to use, and noyone plays him. Espio was the first legit Stryker I fought. I also love his laugh when he wins a round. (punk) Probably one of the best victory things there is.

I used to troll with Stryker in UMK :trollface: He was pretty good actually. In current MK I played him a little but didn't stick with him, all my time is devoted to my green gem.

Haha, I always laugh at Stryker's laugh. Its catchy. I laugh at my opponent occasionaly. Usually when they whiff a throw or two. I don't even know why I find it funny. I just do.

I really adore Stryker's laugh, his voice actor is perfect, they literally did Stryker justice overall in this game.

I hated him so much before I joined TYM and started playing competitively. I always thought of him as a dick because how he blew me up in expert ladder. I respect every character now. I'm even picking up Jade for fun c: Her rush down seems interesting to get into.

I play him because he's one of my favorite MK characters. I used him in all of the games he was in, MKA, Umk3, and MK9. He's really fun to play as with his gun cancels and I think he's a viable character. People underestimate him.

Did you guys know that Stryker was supposed to be in MK Deception as a playable character and he was supposed to cross paths and have a major involvement with Havik and Hotaru? He represented the middle ground between the two opposing sides of order and chaos as a cop in a democracy..it's a shame they never explored this avenue for Stryker, hopefully next game we'll see him start to get something just as interesting.

What's everyone's thoughts on his portrayal and appearence in MK Legacy? I was thrilled they finally put him in prominent media outside of the game and he has a respectable portrayal too. Hopefuly this is the guy that will be playing Stryker in the actual full on movie.

Well what I'm doing with jade and scarlet is exploring them on my own with only frame data. I wanted to see if I could have my own style with those characters. I never really seen either in matches at a high level play so that is why i chose those two. Jade is first and I'll do scarlet when I feel comfortable with Jade in casuals. All in good fun but I do hope I can find cool stuff for jade players.

I play Stryker because I think his in-close pressure is underrated, and I like the idea that a cop is brave enough to take on supernatural asshole ninjas. They really fleshed out his character in MK9 to make him likeable but still badass.

He's my favorite character next to Scorpion and Ermac, and I love that the community is usually so divided about him. You either love him or hate him, and I love him to the point of it being a little homoerotic. I'll leave it at that.

Espio... lol, I almost cried... But so true... Stryker players just "answer the Call", and normally became amazing players. The part of the "normal guy" against the supernatural ones, I think, is his major trace. All in him is amazing... this game really makes him justice... I hope people don´t hate him like before this game. ='(

I started practicing him as of a couple nights ago thanks to seeing that video by Vulcan Hades again. I'm not sure if I'll stick with him or not, but his combos are pretty badass looking.

I just need to figure out what to use besides D4 into roll for the up close footsie game. Any suggestions?

I did figure out a pretty cool AA combo that wasn't in Vulcan's video. 30% with one bar. I think that's pretty worth it...

down 4 baton sweep.

Standing 4 one of Stryker's fastest normals at 8 frames.

Standing 2 hits crouch and you can gun cancel off of it.

Standing 3.

I'm not a footsies specialist though so surely I left some things out that other Stryker plays might use and such.


If you're interested in meterless anti-air down 1, 1,2 gun shot, roundhouse for 22%. I mean granted a 30% anti-air punish is great, you just might want to keep meter for other things, great find especially if you want to close out the round with your anti-air. I've never thought to use meter on my anti-air punishes, so this is interesting to me, I might tinker with it.

That's actually similar to the combo I use to punish teleports like Quan Chi's, Raiden's and Ermac's. 1,2 gun shot, 1,2 roll toss

The timing is very weird, it feels awkward doing the combo...maybe it's the PS2 pad I'm playing on now, but I just figured I'd experiment with it since you brought it to my attention.

I was always picky on using meter on combos, that's the only reason why my anti-air is only around 22%.

Then I play online and have difficulty anti-air with my standard anti-air combo lol.
