Why do people keep saying "normalization?"

This is starting to sound like some 1984 shit with people spouting off weird corporate doublespeak.

They're nerfs and buffs. What the hell is normal? It's like people saying 'intelligent design' when they mean 'creationism.'

Just because NRS tries to obfuscate their intent doesn't mean people should parrot it.

Everytime I hear people saying it they're saying it sarcastically like at EVO they kept talking about how "Normalized" Superman was.

This term can be confusing, what if a character gets "normalized" for the better. Thus bringing crap tier to mid or high tier.

i look at it like normalized means to be toned down to fit the rest of the cast or be buffed to be on par with more of the cast. Nerf IMO means to be toned down dramatically where mu's change dramatically

because it the best phrase ever!
i use it in real life as much as possible.

best thing about it is to "normalize" something there has to be a set base for it to be compared to.
since we dont know what the base or "normal" is, all normalizations can never be in any form on context.
(yea im not sober right now, what of it?)

Well let me explain.

Sindel mk9

Starts a combo with b1, 2 pop up combo damage is reduced to 20% ish max. Day one b1, 2 did over 30% plus.

If I do b1, 2 mid combo with a different pop up combo damage stays the same and doesn't get reduced.

So when some one uses the word "normalize" it's putting back the normal % damage out put. Instead of the increase/decreased amounts during a patch that buffed or nerfed it.

Hope that helped? I'm bad at explaining stuff :/

Lex's d2 was normalized last patch. Originally it did 2% damage while everyone else did 5%. lt was normalized to 5%. I wish they would normalize him some more.

If something good is normalized it was nerfed, if something bad is normalized it was buffed.
I was just joking about how they say everything is being "normalized" when it's nerfed but it gets "buffed" when it's an improvement.
The joke was funnier in my head =(

normalization = fixing inconsistencies. Unfortunately, the fgc has no grey area for patching so everything is either a buff or nerf no matter the reason or outcome. Since most things that get normalized were performing better than they should, it became synonymous with nerfing. Then it just became a huge joke because its fun to say.

"normalized" is Paulo's term. I think it's funny because it is odd and I have never hear it used before.

You've never played World of Warcraft? That reference would pop up once in a while in patches to describe damage that has been fixed to reflect what it should've been doing all along. It might mean something else now, I haven't played WoW in a long while.

It's an existing word. I know it from math and programming with 3D graphics. Badly explained and translated to this context, it means something like 'adjust to meet the standard' or 'adjusted to what it what intended to be'.

"normalization" is the politically correct term...so if u ask nrs: "Hey guys why did u nerf xyz and buff zxy?" then they can answer:"We never nerfed nor buffed anyone, cos it wasnt needed. We just normalized..." XD
