Why crouch when being crossed up then stand block?

I usually just stand block if someone is going to cross over jump me. Why do the guys in tournaments duck first and then stand block?

Getting into a more compact stance like ducking makes it tougher for people to hit you.

well probably there blocking a string in block in case something may come out, e.g. Kabal can end all his comboes with the saw move, hitting low, and if they see him crossing up, then they revert back to avoid the medium.
