Just a passing thought...
In Street Fighter it is said that Ryu is the base character, the first one created and tooled by the devs, and the other characters are sort of created off of him. Each character is tooled according to how they would get around Ryu's toolset, and then balanced with the other cast accordingly. Killer instinct did this as well, with Jago as the base character, and the others were built around him to a great degree; he is the 'Ryu' of KI. And I'm sure there are other equivalents in many other FG...I'm just not familiar with them.
Does this philosophy apply to MK at all? MKX??
Both Ryu and Jago are the 'all-rounders' in their respective games, but as far as I can tell, there is no real 'all-round' character in MK from a gameplay perspective. Talking about MKX specifically, there are 'high-tier' characters who can beat much of the cast, but not the obvious character which this game's "fighting game philosophy" is based on.
