Where to start?

Well I've been sifting through the threads which turn into countless amounts of arguing and unorganized information which is why I decided to create an account and start my own thread. I just wanted to state that before people start yelling at me as they tend to do to new people on fighting game forums. I would gladly organize some of this info if allowed to just to make it easier for new people. If I were allowed to.
I am getting back into the game after a long hiatus and after lots of research I'm interested in playing Shang. His fireballs and those juggle combos really peak my interest. Long story short, where do you start? Due to the nature of the character, I'm aware that I will have to gain a lot of knowledge to become a top player, which is fine but every building needs a foundation. Would you say that I should work on mastering the ground fireball juggles first? Are there strings that I absolutely need to know (bnb or block)? Should I work on just movement and learning how to zone with all my fireballs before anything else? Starting from the core of his character what does he excel at that I as his player need to be able to perform?
I usually try to learn the bare bones of things before I start fleshing out. I believe that anyone can freely put their own spin on anything once they properly learn how the foundation works.

i would advise you to learn his zone game

when you have that down you can then move on to mastering his rushdown which will be much less difficult with a solid strategy to fall back on, and most of his zoning combos work out the same as his normal-starting ones anyway. You will have to learn how to flow between both aspects of his game to play him effectively

Thank you for the reply. That's really good for me then, I personally like to have the option of going either way. I also get confused with the fireballs sometimes so focusing on using only projectiles for the time being would be a good idea.

I saw those I just don't think that having combos thrown at me first would help especially if there's way more to a character than such. Not discrediting any guides or advice given but I was looking for more of what basic thing to master first rather than an open ended guide. I played street fighter for a while for example, when I picked up ryu and tried to follow guides it got me nowhere but after people helped me out and said learn how to zone with fireballs, dp's, and normals first everything else came a lot easier.

MK is much different than SF,learn combos first and then learn the character basics, i can assure you it will take you a lot more time learning how to use a character than to learn his combos.

a string would go somethin like dis d1u4 12du4 d3u4 d4u4 f4du4 (assuming the f4 du4 hits ) 1 f34db4 soul steal or up skull/
1 12 f434 df4 upskull

Thanks, I will keep note of that.

Thanks for the input, this I believe I will experiment with this a bit with a character that's less complex per se before applied to ST.

the point of the first thread i sent you is to break down all his strings, and everything that can be done to counter them. the first thing you want to master for shang is well, obviously, his BnBs.. then his pressure options, then his zoning options, then start exploring SS. the thing about shang is you're not done once you learn shang (any other char honestly), you still have to look a bit into every other character, as well as learn SS BnBs.

D=down U=up F=forward B=back wots not to understand
1=x 2=y 3=a 4=b ??
first of,spelling properly would be better and second you should say GS,not the inputs,it gets confusing that way ESPECIALLY because you don't even bother writing the whole input,the way you typed them could be easily mistaked for a single combo by a newbie.

Put OR between and don't put inputs instead of specials,it's confusing.
