From a personal stand point: Very good game. Polished, extremely fun, a little more complex than people give it credit for, and salt inducing (I mean that in a good way, mostly).
From the community consensus stand point: Polarizing. That's the best way I can describe it. Opinion is SO divided, and I think it really affected narratives. In reality, the game's flaws weren't nearly as bad as the detractors would have you believe. However, perhaps to compensate, they also at times went conveniently overlooked by the game's supporters. Case in point: Balance. I do believe the game's balance was good, especially in comparison to MK9. But depending on who you ask, the balance was either atrocious (it isn't) or absolutely great (it isn't). Some things definitely are overstated, whether positively or negatively, based on who you ask.
As a tournament fighting game, I feel the game was a great success, even if the atmosphere within the community wasn't always the best. That to me is the game's ultimate legacy. Its biggest flaw in the eyes of most, when you really get down to, is that it isn't Mortal Kombat. Deep down inside, there's always that resentment, and it's understandable to an extent.
