What decides exactly if a tournament is a major?

To answer the OP: If GGA Wafflez wins the tournament (i.e. Final Round) then it was definitely NOT a major, or a GGA local.

I think the whole "it's just a word" thing might not be valid anymore in the argument. Clearly there is a discrepancy between winning a major and winning a tournament, as much as there is between winning EVO and winning majors. Our community clearly uses "winning a Major" as a criteria for ranking players.

If it really is about those that grant seed points for EVO, then only tournaments on The Road to EVO matter and everything in the other half of the year is just irrelevant?

I know it's difficult that different tournaments mean different things depending on your scene, but I suppose the FGC as a whole isn't really regulated/organized by a single entity, so it's difficult to say what is or isn't officially. So I guess it really is just size/turnout numbers.

Out of the 9 total majors held for IGAU, the winners of 7 of the 9 will be at DTN. If this is a regional, then a Major is now defined as an event where 100% of every major tourney winner must be in attendance.

This community has changed what a major is god knows how many times for the sole purpose to giving more or less credit to its favorite players. If in MK9, the majority of players who have won majors were in attendance, it was a major. In IGAU, its not SOLEY based on out of towners.. unless the out of towners are not "good enough".

Majors are black and white, not grey,something either is or is not a major.. Otherwise something could be a major UNTIL tourney day, then if certain ppl believed to show up do not, the tourney that you thought was a major instantly became a regional. You cant create a standard that has the meaning of an event to change on the day the event is held. Its not fair to those who traveled for what the event was believed to be.

From what you guys are considering a major to be at this point, the next major is Final Round and everything up until that point is a regional.

IMO a major is multiple regions attending w multiple top8 placers

Min: 50-75+ people
50% out of town

And NJ is not out of town compared to NY

There are as of now 10 states coming that we know of and looks to have over 50-70 people

If DTN has more than 50 and those guys then hell yea it's a major

But chris g didn't place well or care about inj anymore

Rico definitely doesn't care about Inj anymore so those two names don't hold weight ONLY because they both publicly state they don't play it.

In June July it would be huge .

FTR I want DTN to be a major and be very populated and do well but IMO it's been so poorly hyped and advertised w the INJ community you have everyone making plans for KIT FR scr and WB and forgetting DTN exists

That's sucks, someone up there needs to be a little more involved and back it up more. There's zero hype and it's because no one took the reigns behind it to do so

Its like people don't even care to try anymore...

West Coast and the Midwest should be the target players to beat right now, and those should be the majors people want to attend. Instead, people rather stay regional to their backyard, and claim superiority from a distance. Honestly, when SoCal went to the East Coast, we came with an army and set out to prove that our players were legitimate.

If people are too worried about what majors to attend, then show up to majors closer to those who earned the right to call their home the best.

My personal next two majors will be SCR and UFGT10.
