You seems to mistake high level player for casuals players.
A lot of people use weird characters, because they aren't tier w***e and actualy care about the fun and the character himself. Plus Phoenix Wright is the worst example you could take since ChrisG actually use him.

Also, even though I would prefer Fate as the Kent Nelson version, I would settle on having a Fate/Zatanna hybrid. They could make up some story in Injustice of how she got a hold of the helmet by either the current Fate dying or some other way. This would give people Zatanna (who people want for some reason), but with a MUCH bigger variety of powers to put her up there. If Fate isn't getting in anyway, might as well.

I think the point everyone is trying to make... is that the character's tier is based on the move-list, the meta-game, and the characters tools.

A character's tier is not based on their popularity.

Judging a character's position in the tier list before we even see gameplay is just.... it makes no sense.

look, Zatanna have biggest chance (90% I'd say, so you don't have to tell me I'm in denial for 25th time), they know she's requested...

on one occasion Boon said it takes them 6 weeks to properly create a character from scratch, and that is without testing... can you all be 100% certain that selected characters weren't in work even before the (100x said unofficial) poll in May... Pesina went to studio in June to do mocap work, concepts, art, movesets and models are done before that, don't tell me you think they're churning out characters just like that?
