Winners:

Pig of the Hut: Chris G losing seemed like a particularly sweet moment for him. But watching Pig savor it from the back of the room -- priceless. Watching Pig stare CG down while he packed his controller and took the walk of shame all the way up the aisle.. Priceless++.

Slips: This goes without saying, but Slips is a winner for sticking to his guns in the face of any and all adversity and opposition. And for playing the game, rather than the matchups.

Kevo: You represented, nuff said.

Divekick(?): I did not expect this, but the Divekick matches reached a surprising level of hype, which mounted to a fever pitch by the time top16 rolled around. By top8, people were using legitimate tactics and strategies, and the commentators were illuminating aspects of the game and analyzing every dive.

(Props to UltraDavid for keeping the intensity up through a loong series of matches).

I guess, by extension, this makes Keits a winner, along with whoever helped produce the game.

Chicago: It was great to see a crowd really get into the matches for every game (including TMNT: The Fighters, and Divekick), and they really gave a rousing show of support for their hometown crew. True fighting fans.

Kuh-ball(?): As much as I hate to admit it.. Bodycount +1

Spooky: Explained below

Losers:

Leveluplive: This was one of the most problematic streams I've seen in recent tournaments. It was hard enough to figure out when you could actually SEE the events that were promised to air.. And then once you managed to catch it, the stream would drop in critical moments, like top4 and grand finals of major events. The ending of the Mystery Game Grand Final was completey destroyed by a blackout and a 2-minute series of commercials for Quiznos etc.

We all appreciated Spooky anyway, but this made it painfully clear why he should be included in whatever exclusive deals are made for streaming events. And chatters were calling his name out on a regular basis.

Steam Monsters: Good gracious. Where do I start. Anyone that doesn't know better would have reason to believe the FGC is a bunch of 11-year-old CoD players that drop in to play/chat in their spare time. The level of chat spam and general idiocy was off the wall, and a lot of serious tournament players had their comments completely flushed away by a torrent of utter nonsense.

Streams need moderators.. And if you aren't going to moderate your stream, you should let someone stream who'll actually take care of people wasting the experience for everyone else.

JetBlue: Yup. You know who you are.

Overall:

Yet another exciting series of matches, and more reasons for people who haven't figured it out yet to take a serious look at MK. And there's more to come in the next few weeks.. Can't wait.

"I guess, by extension, this makes @Keits a winner, along with whoever helped produce the game."
Funny you say that because for what I know at least 2 people Sanchaz, the winner and Big Marcus were gametesters so it was really bad having people with days of experience playing against people seeing it for the first time it was a big screw up by keits.

Balrog ball on the second stream while marvel was happening was really hype Floe's girlfriend went into the final against omg itz a andre, and CEOJebailey, mike ross and floe with the biased commentary made it even more entertaining.

I'm not on the ny scene to know why everyone hates chris g, from an outsider it look like a simple bullying you guys might wanna explain why he gets so much hate.

I called pig would win on the stream from the hotel room =(

Slips: Scorpion still sucks

The stream was really bad it went offline quite often

I wish the mistery tournament was all of it archived. All the games I saw were rally nostalgic some good but all entertaining.

I like UFGT I think keits is a really smart man I hope one day be able to go to it

I hope dive kick will be uploaded online for free some time soon in the future. That game looks great! That community will blow up faster the street fighter 2

1. He refuses to learn the game. A lot of times, he has bad punishes, bad corner combos, lack of character knowledge/ Matchup knowledge.
2. He called MK trash or something like that - at least once.
3. He's get extremely salty. His childish behavior when he loses is the worst part about him, imo.
There has been at least 2 times where he literally stopped playing, after getting bodied in a previous match.

It's fun to see him lose sometimes because he does dumb shit. But, overall, I have no problem with Chris G.
MK9 needs as many participants as it can get, especially well known and experienced players, such as Chris G.

One thing: While I agree on a preference for Spooky, the stream drops were not LevelUp's fault. East Coast and Midwest Tournament venues have had a recurring problem of bad internet lately -- yes including Spooky streams. This isn't helped by Twitch's EC servers having severe issues at times.

Now, the reason I prefer Spooky to LevelUp is BECAUSE of this --> Spooky (and Sabin) pay attention to stream monsters so they know when the stream drops and when it doesn't. LevelUp seems to not tell the commentators this, so at times it seemed like they were determined to go on regardless of how many times it dropped, without holding any matches or caring to apologize.

That's fair, and a good point. It seemed like the long commercial interludes helped exacerbate the problem, because when a stream would come back after a drop, there were always a couple of minute-long promo spots chained together.. So by the time things were back in action, you'd already missed the match.

The bigger issue was with people missing events altogether due to things that were scheduled to be streamed and weren't. That's where it helps to have someone like Spooky who's dedicated and stays on top of the action.

No event is perfect, though, and overall it was an exciting weekend of fights.

God they need to kill those quiznos commercials. I had volume off on the streams at times, but the Quiznos commercials refused to be muted, which was a pain in the ass.

Yes this was known by almost everybody long before top 16 rolled in. It just demonstrates how much an advantage betatesters have even in a seemingly simple game like divekick but it also helped the game look a lot more interesting as they demonstrated to the commentators why Kick wasn't inferior to Dive.

Hopefully the consider making a new version so they can avoid lawsuits from Capcom for selling the game by using different art assets. It's definitely a fun timekiller.

I helped contribute to the silliness but I don't see what insightful things you expected tournament players to have made during the mystery and divekick tournaments. Yeah I know you were talking about the entire event but at times like the mystery tournament the stream monsters had to get hyped somehow for some terrible games that were in the trashbin of history for a reason (Real Steel though was surprisingly interesting as the fights got longer and more could be learned)

I can't comment on the stream dropping because I was physically at the tournament, but while the stream schedule was a bit unusual I didn't feel it was hard to understand. Top 8 started on the one stream then at top 4 they would move it to the other one. Everything ran on time and stuck to the schedule that was posted on the UFGT website.

Stream chat is always trash. Turning that off is the first thing you do when you turn a stream on.

As far as sticking to the schedule.. Once it hit top8 everything was fine, but before that there were mostly confused posts, people showing up and saying "I thought MK was at 6pm/8pm/etc.", and people asking "what time is MK now?" A lot of us missed the scheduled Saturday night match stream (did it even air?).

Again, it's nothing against the tournament itself, which was exciting and smoothly run.. But it's nice having someone to stream that will keep people updated and stay on top of the matches.

Oh, you were talking about the pool matches streamed on Saturday. I guess that was a little weird. I was about to play on stream and then as we were checking buttons someone came by and told us they were switching over to Street Fighter. I'm okay with no one being able to see that match though, I got bodied lol
