Get on that hook
My understanding is that if Natsu knocks you down and you think she's gonna do an OTG bomb, just stay on the ground and don't do anything. It will still hit, but it won't launch and you won't take as much damage. Apparently that's the best option.

I dunno how you're gonna say you're not tier whoring when we don't know what the tiers are. The game is too new. When MK9 first came out, everyone thought Ermac was top 5.
With his damage and the better recovery on force push I too was a believer that Ermac was top 5.I doubt and hope than SCV won't get touched too much as MK9 though.

...just give me back gunshots OTG throw =D

Is it me or is Algol and Natsu OP'd as f*ck? How do you escape her unblockable when she OTG's it? F*cking Shujinkydink does that sh*t all day and I'm stuck playing mid to low tier characters...F*CK!!
lay down and take it like a man, the unblockable bomb does like 10 dmg on its own. if you stand up and get hit by it, that's nearly half your life.

BTW I feel like I'm playing Baraka with Cervantes.I can't apply pressure I have to be defensive.Or probably I'm just playing SC the wrongest way possible?
bK gives you advantage on block... ;P good way to get your pressure going.

Where art thou, MKX Skarlet?
I don't really like the addition of meter without the addition of a breaker...I think MK9 hit the nail on the head with the breaker ability.

It's difficult for me to adjust to guard impacts requiring meter as well...

Overall the game is a difficult adjustment. So far I'm still having more fun with MK9 despite the asspiece of a netcode.

Playing MK9 a lot gives me the tendency to hold guard to lay down. How do I keep laying down in SCV?Because guard sure as hell ain't it.

What's his bK again? At first I thought you meant 4bk which is that safe string with the last hit hitting high which is meh.Or 6b+k which is his gun attack.

well you can always jump and attack her if she is going for an unblockable but the problem lies in the fact that its teleport cancel-able so she can mix you up with it and that not the only possession cancel she has personally i hate her, but i had to learn kill her if you get that mythical knock down or guard break

...don't press anything :X if you press any buttons while you're on the ground you're going to stand up. if you hold 2 or 8 you'll roll for a few seconds and then stand up, but if you tap 2 or 8, you can do small rolls on their own for infinity and never get up if you don't want to.

B slide K. looks like a lil hop kick.

This game on sale, yet? :(
Amazon has it on sale for $47.91 for PS3, I'm waiting a bit more for the price to drop, mainly because of low money and because I'm in no rush to get it, although I'm in love with Viola and she'll probably be the only character I use in that game.

Play Monster Hunter!
Anyone else see the patch notes yet? There patching a large amount of the cast with a lot of changes, lots and lots of nerfs all around.

I hope they don't fall into the same problem MK did, well the game is far better off with the patches, all the changes did kill a lot of interest in the game, then again that may of just been an excuse for capcom players that just didn't find the game that fun.

Huge changes and SFXTekken just coming out can't be great for there overall scene.

Not gonna lie though, kinda salty they nerfed natsu's WR K. Surprised her air thows didn't get touched.

From what I've seen and heard, Viola got some nice buffs in the patch. Great news. I love using her style along with Edge Master and Elysium.
-------
And from my experiences online, Leixia was a royal pain.
---------
And from my EM uses, my worst characters are without a doubt, Voldo and Dampierre(who I have no interest in learning). I attempted practicing with Patsuka as well, but he is beyond my skill. Also, I mained Astaroth in the previous games, so I may try to learn him this time around. But my attention is mostly focused on EM, Viola, and a little of Natsu and Leixia.

One more thing: Viola's 2A+B is the greatest thing ever. ;)

Altaire, were you just on Canada Cup SCV stream (pst 12 noon)? That was a really close game against jwong but holy shitt that Wong factor on the last round lol.

Uh, no. As long as you have enough matchup experience and refer to the frame data, you don't NEED to learn a character just to beat them. It's no more necessary in SC than it is in MK9.

Oh, and my early projection for top tier right now:

Alpha Pat, Astaroth and Natsu are top three. Calling it right now.

Algol, Leixia, Pyrhha Omega and Xiba are from 4-7.

Voldo, Mitsurugi and possibly Hilde would make up the rest of top ten. I haven't seen enough of Hilde to have a concrete opinion, though.

Honorable mention goes to Nightmare, who's potentially top ten now that he actually gets rewarded for setting up. Cervantes may be up there now that he's safer and has one of the best CEs in the game, and Viola is kind of a wild card (the potential is there, but unless someone finds an answer to her low damage output, she's likely to be mid to low tier). No one is going to know what the REAL tier list is for months yet, but these are my estimates. By Evo, we'll know how much of this was on the money.
LOL at Nightmare "potentially" being top 10.

Very old post in the scheme of things - I know, but I'm sure you see the retrospective funny side in this statement.

I actually stand by pretty much all of that, apart from Leixia and Xiba dropping out of top ten due to their nerfs (though Leixia may not have been there to begin with). Nightmare is still GROSSLY overrated. He's a good character, but he's not the SSSSS+ tier character everyone makes him out to be. The best argument anyone could make for Nightmare being top tier is "Well he keeps winning". In reality, it's two separate Nightmare players that have been winning consistently. I hear shit like "WELL NIGHTMARE HAS WON LIKE SIX EVENTS", when four of those wins are all one guy and the remaining two are another.. The next most conclusive argument is that he has the damage. So does Pyrrha. So does Pat. So do their respective alternate versions. So does Astaroth. So does Cervantes, so does Xiba, so does Algol, so does Natsu. In fact, many more of those characters do more damage than Nightmare does in open space, often times MUCH more (Alpha Pat, Algol and Astaroth come to mind). Nightmare gets 75 damage off his go-to starter. Xiba gets... 98 damage meterless on a punish. Pyrrha can get as much as 110. Pyrrha Omega can get 80 just for throwing out DNS B (which is -14 with pushback, meaning it's all but completely safe). Cervantes gets more damage off his launcher than Nightmare gets off his, and Cervantes' launcher is faster and safer.

Seriously, what is the argument for Nightmare being so overpowered? He has godly wall game, that's about it. The problem is that he's also a spacing character, meaning he can't actively push you towards the wall and do what he does best at the same time. The Soul Calibur community will go "MAN NIGHTMARE IS SO DUMB IN ARENAS WITH WALLS HE CAN JUST PUSH YOU INTO ONE AND TAKE ALL YOUR HEALTH", but then they'll go "MAN NIGHTMARE IS SO DUMB IN THE COMPLETELY OPEN STAGES BECAUSE HE CAN JUST KEEP BACKSTEPPING AND DOING 3B TO WHIFF PUNISH YOU". So, wait... They're complaining about how he should be in open space when he's not, and then complaining about how he shouldn't be when he is. I mean, come the fuck on.

If you want the hard truth about Nightmare, the simple fact is that the community just doesn't know how to fight him. No one played him in SC4, namely because he was shit tier in that game, so the majority of the scene had little to no Nightmare matchup experience going into SC5. Now that he's out and running amok, he's dominating, because no one has any idea how to deal with him. He's just as well to be a new character, but because he technically isn't, everyone is acting as though they should just immediately understand this character none of them have ever had to deal with before. As a Nightmare player, there is so much shit I know I'm getting away with that the community is not blowing up. Like, no one seems to realize that literally ALL of his BE attacks are full combo punishable (no exaggeration, they are). I get guard breaks into easy attack and grab mixups for an attack that should merit a death sentence every single time it's blocked, not free advantage. People still fall for NSS K and GS A, when both of these can be option selected in most cases. I mean, fuck, the list goes on. There are a million and one ways to blow up Nightmare, and this community would rather bitch about him than figure out most of them.

Long story short: Nightmare is not as good as he's cracked up to be. He's absolutely solid, but he isn't anywhere even close to the top five, let alone top three. Don't buy into what you hear.

Also, for the record, my current top five (in rough order) is Alpha Pat, Cervantes, Pyrrha Omega, Algol, Astaroth. The remainder of the top ten (in no particular order) would be Pat, Pyrrha, Viola, Natsu, Ivy. I'd put Nightmare right in at 11, maybe 10. It's possible he's better than Ivy, but no fucking way is he better than Natsu, Pat, Pyrrha or Viola. Hell, I can't think of a single matchup Pyrrha has that's worse than 6-4, if it even gets that bad.

Lexia got whored out :( Ivy sucks.
Ivy's hella dumb now, dude. I could see how she'd been toned down from SC4 when the game dropped, but that first patch buffed the SHIT out of her. She had strong showings at MLG too, two Ivy players made top 8.

...Wait, I just realized I went that entire post and somehow completely forgot about Mitsu.

That cheesy fucking is UNQUESTIONABLY top ten, and some think he may be as good as top three. I'd put him ahead of Ivy, Viola and possibly Pat, putting him just behind Natsu and Pyrrha. WELP NO NIGHTMARE IN TOP TEN, SHOW'S OVER FOLKS!

I ordered this game while I was at it (ordering Injustice) and I'll say this game is hella good. I play Nightmare and if anyone wants to help me out with different matchups and get some games in I'd appreciate it.
