Stay Puft

I've seen this done on other forums and thought this would be a fun thing to do.

Post the name of a movie you think is a must-see for everyone and I'll add it to the list. ONLY ONE MOVIE PER PERSON, so choose wisely. If you want you can write a short explanation/review of what makes the movie great and why it deserves to be on the list. I look forward to reading your posts.

Master of Quanculations
Robocop, the original from 1987.

It IS a perfect film. As a child, it's easy to fall in love with it because it has robots and action. But as an adult, there's so much more to discover.

The performances are incredible. Dick Jones is so slimy and hateable, while the main villain Clarence Bodicker is so mesmerizing that you can't get enough of him. Robocop, Alex Murphy, has such a stellar performance going from emotionless drone to broken man, it's one of the best drama's ever to exist in the action genre.

While classified as sci-fi action, the most powerful scene comes from Robocop simply walking through his old house and remembering his family. And we see the struggle as he finds his soul and struggles to express his rage through his robotic body. Watch the way actor Peter Weller moves in the suit, and the blankness in his mouth expression when he's lost in memory.

The director really knew how to sell the metamorphis of Robocop back into Alex Murphy. In the early scenes, you barely see him in the suit. Only obscured. Then you see him, and he speaks robotically with a mechanical hum to his voice. His movements are very rigid and he has no feeling. As he slowly remembers who he is, he walks more naturally, speaks more human, and the hum slowly fades. You don't see his face for an hour, and then you finally see one eye through his broken visor. And finally you see his face at the end, once he truly feels human again. Brilliant.

It's a very dark film, and sad. The saddness is captured perfectly in one moment, as a maskless Murphy asks: "Murphy had a wife and son, what happened to them?". Lewis responds, "They moved away. They thought you were dead." Murphy is only left to contemplate and say, "I can feel them...but I can't remember them."

The humor is fantastic. The violence is practical and exaggerated at the same time. Great score, great cinematography. Smart satire of American culture and deep metaphors on the state of American corporate military and government. And the robosuit is practical and hasn't aged a bit.

Perfect film.

Gunslinger since pre patch (sh/out to The Farmer)
Trailer Trash Nurses. I found this movie quite compelling, its themes caused more than mere emotions to rise up. Its sweet, mellow woman-pounding, though it sounds misogynistic, provoked inspiration from within me...along with some other things. I'd like to go to talk about it's charac... HAHAHA nah I'm just kidding.

I'm going to go with Montvalley Films' "A Year of Injustice" actually, pretty hype to watch it all back over sometimes.

Doesn't count as a movie.

Impossible to choose. I'll just post the last excellent film I watched.

Lost Highway

You can think of it as the male counterpart to Mulholland Dr. Among the best Lynchian films. You should watch all of them.
