Tournament Mode Reduces Lag Online?

Not too long ago, Check posted a status update on here saying Tournament Mode reduces online lag, and that it works better on certain stages. So I went to try this with Foxy for a good minute. (GGs, btw)

With the combination of US to UK, plus my garbage internet, I couldn't really tell if it made an impact, but maybe that was just to Foxy. Idk how he felt about it, but it sorta seemed like it made a difference.

Anyone else try this?

The only flipside is that we still don't know if it eliminates toasty boost lol, not a big deal to me, certainly would be a hypekiller though..

Infact that said, that might explain it, considering everything (mostly completely aesthetic) the game is trying to account for during regular modes.

I think it's just that removing environmental stuff like foreground elements, blood and stage specific stuff will make the game run more smoothly. Works offline too.

In theory it should help. There would be less crap going on for the internetz to communicate.
How?
As far as we know, Tournament mode disables first hit and foreground objects.
I'd see it being a profit in stages like The Street so that the cars don't have to be in sync.

Tournament Mode takes away dat first hit bonus ;_;

but No Blood reduces lag because it doesn't have to render the blood and the like.

I remember hearing that the Soul Chamber has the least amount of lag too.
 
Maybe Jimmypotato remembers my list of stages and the lag on each.

i cant ever remember besides pit night and shang throne being good

rooftop dusk is shit. i always remember that one. the dragon's roar causes lag LOL

edit - i could go through all the stages again. i just dont feel like it.

also lag on stage differs depending on where you stand on the stage

you wont get far that way. the games i played were local (north jersey to philly). though even my connection with weedoshi in canada is godlike too. cant wait to try with him

you'll see the big difference in great connections.
 
From what I gather:

Wanna go tournament mode because of the reduced latency, but still want to keep the first-hit meter bonus and Toasty Boosts? Go disable foreground elements! (0-0-1 | 0-0-1)
 
alien, tourny mode is still the way to go. i was anti airing crossups while coming out of stuns. it's ridiculous how good it is.

essentially its like playing in practice mode, which has already been proven to lag less offline than versus mode.

Totally makes sense. Less information being processed = less lag.

The problem is... the main issue isn't rendering. It's god damn NRS using gamespy...

Not necessarily, I'm pretty sure this only affects online for the PS3 version.

But I have to agree with Check, a hotfix to make the training stage selectable in versus would be the tits, SSF4 style. (even NRS couldn't screw that up, right?)

i just sat there and let my opponent win the round after it happened on the second clip. that is what ima do for now one for people who dont use tourny mode when they play me.

Wow. The only issue for me is that I mostly play with random people. I don't have a lot of fwieends. :(

Most of the time I try putting kombat kodes in the opponent just mashes buttons like a moron.

The only gripe I have with this is that the meter is all fucked up now. Translate bad into competitive play. There should be a yet with other modes too.

Giving up the first hit bonus isn't really something I favor, but if it does work to make the online a bit more playable...I can deal. I'll try this out. Thanks for sharing, Check and THTB.

played with weedoshi, and i think the servers were a little laggy last night, so i couldn't tell how much it was helping, but it felt better. i still say local is the best way to see the difference.

also, disabling foreground elements is definitely good shit. so props to Alien Substance on that one.

NoBlood reduces lag for sure because blood and injury will not be distributed between the player clients as extra few bits of data.
The impact of NoBlood is meager at best, however.
