What's new

These are the DLC's characters intro dialogs (Spoilers)

Nickolaidas

Agent of Chaosrealm
How is Cetrion not evil? Raiden calls her out on her transparent bullshit "philosophy" to her face, and she has an obvious crisis of conscience which her mommy snaps her out of by demanding loyalty. She's misguided and evil. She postures that she cares about life, but she'll eagerly help her mother bring death and destruction to the universe.
If she was evil she would never have had a crisis of conscience in the first place. Kronika's plan is against her Lawful Good beliefs, but she's been duped into believing Kronika's plan will eventually help the realms by not having Raiden fucking up history. She loves life, which is why she is hesitant to hurt the Briggs (and why she spares them afterwards). She isn't 100% sold on Kronika's insane plan (which is why she doesn't fight Liu at full strength). Like a dutiful daughter, she looks up to her mother and (reluctantly) places her faith in her creator. She considers Shinnok a necessary evil in order for life to have a reason to prosper.

Misguided? Definitely. Evil? Hell no.

Every character who isn't a Saturday morning cartoon villain is capable of having a crisis of conscience, it's just a matter of finding the right button to push. So if your definition of evil is "completely irredeemable Spawn of Satan who laughs gleefully as s/he peels the flesh off of innocents' bones" then yes, I agree, Cetrion is not evil. She has simply done a loooooooooot of evil things. Interesting distinction, mostly semantic on an MK forum.

I mean, who are the genuinely evil characters on mk11 roster? Shao Kahn, DVorah, Kano, Kabal, Kollector, Geras, Frost, Noob, Cetrion.
I'd take out Kabal and Geras and add Skarlet.

Revenant Kabal is only evil bc he's a revenant. The past Kabal she retrieved was one that was still working with the Black Dragon before he reformed and became a cop.

Geras is only a construct made by Kronika, and in his tower ending you can clearly tell that he isn't evil.

Skarlet is totally evil. She lives to serve Shao Kahn and will do anything to please him, and she's literally blood thirsty.

ImperatrixSindel

Too bad YOU... will DIE!
Intro dialogues aren't necessarily canon and often wind up contradicted, so I'm not too fussed. But I was definitely hoping we'd get a Deception-style Sindel as the righteous Edenian queen rather than yet another brainwashed evil Sindel. That said, she's probably more popular as a villain!

Sindel betraying Jerrod and going with Kahn willingly just doesn't make any sense with the backstories of MK3 or MK9, so I'm going to chalk those up as a what-if until we see more explanation, if we ever do. It would make sense for brainwashed Sindel to say that, though, so given that this time-extracted or resurrected version of Sindel appears to still be under Shao Kahn's memory alteration spell I'm not going to worry about it.

The Quan Chi killed her bit is interesting; wonder if that'll go anywhere.

The MK9 Mileena retcon meanwhile continues to screw up a lot of stuff -- did Sindel ever even meet her? lol

In general MK11 makes Edenia very confusing. It seems like Edenians are a known culture in Outworld, as Skarlet, Jade, and the Kollector talk about Edenians. But Skarlet and Jade are coming from the MK2 period when Kitana isn't supposed to know there was ever such a place at all. She's supposed to think she has always been the Princess of Outworld. It made sense for Tanya and Rain to be talking about Edenia in MKX because of the time jump.

Scarlet is a crack fiend for blood magik and it allegedly causes madness.

You seem to have amassed quite a backlog. Care to tell me some of those looooooooooooooooot of evil things? Taking stuff out of your butt excluded.

Sareena for MK11!
I would've preferred Deception Sindel, but I can take this one xD She's very sassy and petty, I love it. The rest of the characters seem interesting. I'm really excited to see Fujin and surprisingly Joker, he was one of my mains in Injustice.

Erron Black: "Sure glad I pack silver bullets."
Nightwolf: "I'm Nightwolf, not a werewolf."
Erron Black: "Good. Silver's expensive."
The lycanthrope dream is dead. Now I'm wondering how they'll make his moveset aesthetically interesting. Tons of characters have glowy weapons and Sub is using axes.

yeah i think cetrion is evil too, but it's like a self righteous, holier-than-thou type evil, which i think makes her interesting. Reminds me of the Law faction from the shin megami games. Her arcade ending points in that direction too. It's an interesting dynamic, sort of the opposite of what Sindel used to be (someone that looks evil, but was good all along).

Well, Kronika said to Raiden that they've had that conversation already hundreds or thousands of times, right? So she's wiped out time and started from scratch, hundreds or thousands of times? And Cetrion has been on board with her plan this entire time?

Then every single death that happened in every single one of those timelines was on Cetrion's hands.

Sounds like a "looooooooooooooooooooooot" of evil things to me.

Especially if you imagine that in most of those timelines, Raiden or some Earthrealm warriors attempted to enlist Cetrion's aid, the way Raiden, Liu Kang, Jax, and Jacqui all do in the MK11 timeline, and presumably she turned them down every single time. I guess this is more of a guess but seems like a pretty safe bet to me. This would make her extra super duper spicy evil if true.

That's up for debate. Personally, I consider the wiping of time and starting from scratch = a clean slate. You can't condemn an action which was erased from history, imo. But that cannot be proven or disproven. And if we accept that Raiden and Liu Kang fighting each other over and over is due to Kronika pulling the strings, then we can assume the same goes for Cetrion. We have no way of knowing how much her mind is influenced by Kronika's power.
