The (Un)official East Tennessee Thread

Ok, so I know everyone else is going by state, but let's face it TN, we're as wide as California is long and no one is going to make the ~20 hour drive (round trip) to Memphis when Atlanta is only 3 hours away. So I say much like NoCal/SoCal we divide us up into EasTN and WesTN as far as "scenes" go. Sorry Memphis, it's not you... It's us.

So Knoxville has long had a complete and utter abscence of any scene whatsoever and that's still pretty much the case. There were a few of us (ok, like ~12 but whatever) that used to play soulcalibur 10/7 for a few years, but that was 7-8 years ago. Now we've got three AAA titles out and nothing... and I for one am sick of it!

So if you're in the EasTN area PLEASE respond to this thread and I will do almost anything to get us "a scene". I have setups, I have office space, I have a lot of friends in the hotel business. There's really no amount of players I can't find a way to accomodate. The only thing missing is you.

I have been trying hard to get a scene going here for a while now. There seriously are only a handful of us that play competively in the area. Hit me up though because i may be able to help. I live 30 mins from Knoxville.

There's a major in Nashville the last weekend in June... I will be working that Friday so will miss out on the MK part =( but will be there Sat. and Sun. for everything else.

With any luck there will be some more EasTN people there and we'll be able to setup something (even if it's just casuals once a week or something, it's better than nothing) after that.

:crosses fingers:

Think it's been ~15 years since the last time I played ST... wonder if I'll have any "ring rust"? <.<

I know atleast 6 people in Knoxville that play. I live south of Knoxville but i still consider it my hub. I am starting a group on facebook called East Tennessee Fighters look it up and join if you would like

Funny, cuz we have had a few events here in Memphis. Nothing HUGE mind you, but events nonetheless. I guess I'll go start the thread for the West side players, lol.

Hey, anybody in East Tennessee (or anyone that wants to come) I am starting a scene at G2K Games in Johnson City. I have worked with the manager and he is more than willing to help in any way that he can (flyers, game copies, promotional tournaments, store space, etc.) in order to set something up. We won't be charged for using the store IN ANY WAY! It doesn't get any better than that. I'm asking you guys that live in the area to help me get this thing off of the ground. We will be meeting once a week at the store for gaming and plain fun. Random tournaments will be held twice a month on Tuesday nights. We don't have to play only MK, other fighters and games are welcome. I just need some ideas concerning what you want to see so that I can pretty much accommodate everyone.

What do I need to come up with every night as far as setups or refreshments?
What are you interested in seeing at the meetings and at the tournaments?
What day would you like to meet? (Monday and Tuesday are the best day because the manager will be there, and we have more availability to the store.)
What can we do to grow this scene and make BUNCHES of people come out every week?
What makes YOU want to come to a scene and participate every week?

If you have any ideas at all please pm me or post here. I want to get this thing off the ground and do it the right way. If you want to help out in ANY way (bring setups, help plan, etc.) please pm me and let me know exactly what you can do. As I already stated, WE HAVE THE SPACE IN THE STORE ALREADY NEGOTIATED FOR FREE!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's mot waste a great opportunity to get something to this area. I would love to play offline competitively. Btw, there is a MK tournament September 6 at G2K. I think it's 2v2, but if we can get something together, the manager will be more than happy to let us play casuals pretty much all day before the tournament. $3 entry fee I think. Guys, let's get this going!

I desperately wish Johnson City wasn't 4 hours away. I'd support the hell out of this. Dying for a scene here in middle TN, but best of luck to you. Everyone within driving distance need to go to this as much as they can. If it gets going and stays alive long enough I may even make a trip out there. That's months ahead, though.

I kinda love you, keep me informed.

e: to answer questions

I have no idea on refreshments
Mk obviously, other fighters would be good to see even though I don't play them
Tuesday would be perfect
Advertsising. Facebook, flyers at ETSU, perhaps running something in the newspaper
Offline MK, duh

I would like to clarify: we will have tournaments two Tuesdays out of the month and meet for casuals and other "relaxation" one other night EVERY week. As of right now, we will be doing the casuals on Monday nights. If enough people request, I will switch it to Wednesday nights. Wednesday is not great for the store (but workable) and other people may attend church. Monday would be nice considering it's the start of a work week; help to get something nice in there. We could possibly have Monday night football on one of the TVs, but I'll have to talk to the manager and see if that is possible. We will have MK EVERY night, however, there will be other games that will be put into the mix, such as Street Fighter, Tekken, MvC, Soul Caliber, etc. I would like to support the entire East Tennessee area and throw in other genres with games such as Madden series, NCAA series, Fight Night, basketball games, Tiger Woods series, Call of Duty series, Guitar Hero and Rock Band (if anyone still plays them), Halo (but not often because I hate XBox; just joking, don't hate me), classic systems (Super Nintendo, Sega, etc.) and maybe even other things like card games even! :team: Just random things that will keep this going when it does take off and appeal to others that might not like to play certain games. Some people bring family and friends to these that don't like the games that are there. Something to keep them interested in order to keep the fighters fighting would be helpful. I have worked with the manager, therefore, I have to help him bring others to the store in return for the FREE SPACE :hump: he is giving us.

Thanks for the replies so far and yes, I hope that this will continue to grow and support people that live further away. I want this to be something special for this area. We need something like this. Way too boring at times. ANY ideas at all would be appreciated guys, and thanks for the reply already Loot. I will keep you all posted as information is accrued. See you guys soon!

We're having an MK9 tournament at Game Galaxy in Nashville at 7pm September 10th on XBOX 360. SF4AE, MVC3, and 3s will also have tourneys.

Hey guys, more info on the casuals at G2K. We will be starting on Monday the 26th @8pm. If enough people show up and want to continue, we will be holding a tournament of some sorts the following day. Really, it all depends on the turnout, and what the participants want to do. Like I said, it will be two Tuesdays out of the week for tournaments and casuals every Monday.

If you know of anybody that can bring TVs, systems, games, controllers, laptops, etc., please do not hesitate to throw them an invitation. Obviously, the more the merrier, and if you yourself are able to support in any way, please let me know. The help will not go unnoticed (free tournament entries).

In the meantime, get the word out! I have a flyer that is ready to be printed that I will post in the store and maybe around the ETSU campus. Any support helps, and I want to get enough people out so that setting up a live stream would be worth it. I wouldn't (and nobody else watching for that matter) want a stream for 4 people; just doesn't make sense. If you want the flyer, I will be happy to email it to you. Post 'em everywhere! I need the support of you guys to get this started and keep it going. We need something like this!

See you on the 26th! :duel:

I have a place with a gym, lobby & huge projector in Unicoi (Near Johnson City/Bristol).

Hypothetically, how many of you would be interested in doing a tournament? There's a lot of factors for me to set this up right now because I'm away at college, so it's totally uncertain. I just want to get an idea of how many people would actually show up so I'll know if it would even be worth trying.

Between the lobby and gym, about 200-400 people can fit comfortably within the building. Food, drinks, etc. are also a possibility. Can i get some input? :D

^Bump, lol.

Out of state people: I'd even love to hear from your guys that can attend. I think I have the resources to make this as big as most tourneys, I'm just looking for feedback.

As for G2K games, I'm only in town on the weekends sorry.

I mean as far as needing to seat 200-400 people, I just don't see that happening, realistically. Would I show ever time?...definitely. I just think that it would be difficult to get that many from this area. I would love to see it grow that large. I'm in if you are. I can promote, do commentary if we decide to set up a live feed, and bring a ps3. I would not have access to any tvs though. Get some people in and pm me for whatever you are thinking of doing. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone personally that would like to participate. They are COD junkies. Let me know though bro, I will help you in any way that I can. Good luck in brining it together, because I would really love to see something like this in our area. Peace.
