All igau downplayers should be sentenced to a month of maining a bottom 5 character in mk9 while fighting top 5 characters in mk9. They will never take their characters tools for granted again.

Someone else downplaying won't hurt you, and playing a set won't prove anything anyway due to all the variables involved.

Theoretically 2 players that play their characters at the absolute highest level could play a lot of sets over a long period of time for matchup evidence -- but in reality, you could play a different player with the same characters and have completely different results.

Best to just focus on what really matters.

This doesn't work. You don't get a chance to develop your own style with the character or get a feel of the opponent's moves, even if you know their properties. I know almost everything about a few characters but can't play them to save my life because I have no experience doing so.

That's why I said high level understanding, meaning you've put at least some time in with the character. This is more about "This character shuts down my options because XYZ." If someone picks your character and uses ABC to get around XYZ, then you have to hold that. If they cannot get around their own XYZ no matter what they do, then the claim is justified.

Results of a ft5 or ft10 may not have any bearing on the actual MU though. Especially in the example you have where it was alts. Basically all that ft5 MMs are to prove a person using a char is better then a different person using a different char.

This then brings us to the idea of getting outplayed. If someone makes the above claim, uses the same tools they complained about and can't beat their own character, then they will have to accept that you're outplaying them instead of accusing you of abusing braindead tools.
