The Solution to Downplayers

Do you think this would help settle matchup debates?

Tired of your training buddy or rival saying their character sucks? Tired of explaining how hard you have to work in a matchup? The answer lies...in the heart of battle. Switch characters, run a long set, and show them what they're taking for granted. For example: at TFC, Rico Suave and @Flawedzilla were arguing about the Black Adam/Aquaman matchup at Denny's for a good 20 minutes. How did they settle this? Rico challenged Flawed to a money match and used Aquaman against his Black Adam. The result was 5-4 Flawed with all games being very close. Flawed's point? Aquaman gets blown up by Black Adam. Keep in mind this was pre patch.

There are debates on this forum literally every few hours about matchups, so if you feel strongly about it, have a decent high level understanding of the opposing character (BnBs, footsies, etc.) and there isn't a large skill gap, then challenge your friend or foe to a FT 10 while switching characters. Loser gives up the right to use the "I CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT____" option select.

Vote in the poll and share your thoughts below.

This doesn't work. You don't get a chance to develop your own style with the character or get a feel of the opponent's moves, even if you know their properties. I know almost everything about a few characters but can't play them to save my life because I have no experience doing so.

Results of a ft5 or ft10 may not have any bearing on the actual MU though. Especially in the example you have where it was alts. Basically all that ft5 MMs are to prove a person using a char is better then a different person using a different char.

The only solution to downplayers who will not listen to logic is summary execution.

I dont see how this will stop downplaying? This only seems to work for MU's..and playing a ft10 wont stop "I cant do anything about____", only finding out what the character can do about ____ will. I think what we need to stop downplaying is understanding that no character "sucks" in this game.

I disagree with that point. Many characters on the roster are not viable for tournament play. Downplayers are usually players who play with a character that has many 5-5 and a couple 6-4 match ups, who then run into a 4-6 matchup, lose and then think their character sucks. Entering a tournament with a character who has to play 4-6 match up all the way through the bracket is not fun.

This is true. And you have to be playing on the same level with each character to get an idea for MU. Not happening.

Hardcore downplayers tend to find excuses for everything. At this point I'm not sure where the relentless downplaying komes from. Whether it's looking for pity, low self esteem, high self esteem, etc..

Though sometimes, it's just that a character is not right for you and you need to switch or get better at the playstyle that character is suited for...

The majority of downplayers do so using high tier characters.

Most of em are fishing for props....'look at me man, my character is so garbage but i still get top 8, give me props'

Or "I would be winning if I wasn't using such a low tier character!"

really who cares about mu numbers just nod and keep racking up wins. playing their. character only helps them. if you are friends sure do it, if not fuck em and let them bitch n moan and revel in it. everyone that says flash is broke. this n that doesn't bother me. those that said he was terrible didn't bother me

Nope i am just real about their placement. Saying tht my characters aren't top 5 isn't downplaying. People just don't like thinking that they were outplayed lol.

Agreed. Just because us Sinestro players have better funamentals doesnt change the fact that he is bottom 5.
