The reason why a new KI won't come out? Rare can't do it.

The guys who worked at Rare 15 years ago probably left. All they have now are people willing to make casual games for the Kinect. I'm willing to bet that the reason we won't get another Killer Instinct isn't because Rare won't do it, but simply because they can't.

They've sold out.

doesnt matter how long its been dormant actually. the market is out there since fgs are on the rise. so eventually KI will come back because even after 17 years there are still KI fans outs there wanting it.

Rare is owned by Microsoft I believe. There is also a loop-hole I think that WB/NRS could get the rights to make a new game... I forget the details but it was rumored months ago that NRS was working on a new KI game, although Ed squashed that rumor on twitter saying that basically as flattered as they are for everyone to be excited on what they're working on that he couldn't find "much of this to be true".

I also heard from someone else though later that WB was looking to get KI rights to make a new KI game so it would go... MK10 (2013), new KI (2014), MK vs KI (2015?) - again, all rumor and speculation. In all honesty, I think it'd be too good to be true if NRS made a new KI.

the number one thing a new KI game would need is its combo system from KI1 in tact. that was the magical thing about that game, the very unique combo system. and of course the badass as fuck characters.

I know right? It's basically the same deal with old age Metallica fans who say they "sold out", even though Metallica was always changing up their music style and stuff on the Black Album still sounded pretty thrashy. They get jealous that their underground band is now popular and that they aren't hipster anymore.

I get the Metallica comparison but the Black Album was a totally different sounding album. It was good, definitely not their best, but it was TOTALLY different.

I don't think Metallica sold out. Black Album was their biggest album. If they were a sell out band, then Load would have sounded exactly like Black Album. Instead, they decided to make a more bluesy/southern rockish, less metal album.

I thought Load was very good. Reload was meh but the album with Blood & Semen on it was awesome.

KI characters as mk dlc would be pretty sweet...but that would require the same license to make the game itself so...doubt thatll happen.
