Why does loser pick stage? It doesn't happen that way in other games where the stage is a big part of matches like Soul Calibur. There is precedent for rules like this. Have we learned nothing?

MK 9 rules were like this. Has there been an official rule set for stage selection for offline tournaments yet? I feel like stages won't really play a huge part, but I could be wrong. The Sky Temple stage seemed to be rather large in todays stream.

I feel like it should be treated like the games where stages can have a big impact on a fight (Soul Calibur, Injustice, etc).

Because even though there's no gadget/bruiser/acrobat type interactables in this game, given the assymetrical nature of the characters, certain layouts will inevitably favour certain characters (just like in Soul Calibur). So we should follow the rules of games like that. The loser can choose to re-random the stage, but can't specifically choose which one unless both players agree.

I feel like this will become the norm so we may as well start doing it now, rather than just ignore precedence just because.

I'm fine with loser picking stage. I feel like in any game where stages actually matter, players should have some input in how a stage gets chosen. I don't think it needs to go as far as Smash where we spend time banning stages and all that, though.

Also, I'm very much in favor of winner being able to reselect variation if loser changes character.

I'm not too worried about stage selection. More about rules on variations. Either way, it's his tournament and if he's going to go by what offline tournament rules are, that makes it okay with me.

I think the grand prize should be that the winner gets the Kollectors Edition of MKX not the Coarse edition.

Though really, if he's putting up his money and it's not costing us a thing to enter, he's pretty much at liberty to make it FT1, Test your luck, random char select if he wants, lol.

I can play the 25th, can't the week before nor the week after. I am travelling to offline tournaments both of those days. I'm going hard at this game!

Thanks for doing this, hopefully we can keep PSN online players ready for ESL to start us a league for that esports ish.

The reason it doesn't work this way in games like Soul Calibur is certain characters get close to a free win on certain stages, which also happened on certain stages in Injustice with power characters vs non-power characters. Astaroth basically gets free wins on that wall-less 4x4 pillar stage in Soul Calibur games - which is pretty stupid, even on counter-pick. And if you could choose both a character and a stage on counter-pick all tournaments would be suuuper stupid. And I wouldn't personally want to look at Smash players as an example for anything to do with tournies ;).

Not saying it'll ever be that extreme in MKX, but I hope official majors follow the always random rule to be safe. But you're right, this is his tournament, so whatever.
