if your going down the route of entry fee i feel you should maybe be stricter with peoples connections.
main reason i played in the one i did was because of the a rule of "ethernet cable or gtfo" and seeing as that went out the window and we have people with clown shoe connections jumping around all day i really wasnt to eager to play in one again...and that when it was free.

but it your gig so i see why you dont want to come off all lag nazi and put people off, me...i have no problem with fighting the good fight against these wireless bandits or wet sock for a modem users haha

also if your paying out 1st 2rd 3rd maybe go 60/30/10?
Yeah this is why I've been hesitating as well. Like @Asodimazze said - it's not only about the individuals connecting, it's also about mkx being terrible online. However if players can not connect they could of course play the match privately and if they can't connect at all - drop out with reimbursement for their entry fee.

As I said this is only a suggestion. You could demand people to send in print screens of their connections but I'm not sure where you'd draw the line.

Another idea could be to let the money tournaments be at the start and end of a season. So say I keep doing this every month, which I plan to, "season 2" could start in January and end in June - thus the first and sixth tournament would be pay2play while the rest are free.

I'd like to play in this EK, structured play even online is fun, look at @RVB 's eu weekly on pc

few suggestions

can't do nothing about, just keep known laggy players away and ask for wired/wireless connection, it may sound harsh but it's better to everyone

- EK takes place in private KOTH's to allow for sreaming while people play. This has been known to cause lag but I'm not sure how to go around this issue.
stream only top8-4
pools and early stage can be played via private match, 2 benefits: less lag and time saving. a 16player bracket can take up a half day, personally I find that boring
also it's idiotic to have pools streamed where online scorpions tele all over the place and the commentary is a laugh track, I believe no one is interested in something like that

* Stream:
- The stream looks bad and randomly dies because streaming from ps4 does that -_-. I might invest in real streaming equipment but I can't afford an Elgato or something similar for quite some time. Kickstarter?
a decent card is around 100-150€ (I have the avermedia live gamer hd) and since you have koth lag issue you'll probably going to stream at something aroung 30fps and less than 720p
no need to buy expensive top quality hardware

* Information:
- It seems that it's rather hard to get everyone to find the info needed in time (thus causing misunderstandings and missed matches). First of all I'm going to restrict all info to TYM. Before I've taken participants from my FL on PSN but having two sources of people signing up is too much.
- Second I think there is a feature to sign yourself up on challonge. That would spare me a lot of time.
- People dropping out/last minute replacements. Getting the info to those last minute players is crucial but hard since sometimes I don't even have their PSN ID.
challonge is the answer
everyone has to have an account and must check in at least 30-20 minutes before the event starts
also the platform itself allow for replacement players, no show are easily covered by this, with time unconsistent players will stay out of it
challonge tournament name should match psn id

* Format:
- I feel this can be improved. more players? Less matches? Ranking system?
start with little numbers, 16players tops for the first few times then see how/where it goes

* Prizes/fee
- This is not as important and I feel that EK should be free. However a small entry fee would give a pot (increasing the "tournament-feel") and perhaps deter people from dropping out in the last second/not showing up.

Please help me improve this awesome tournament.
no prizes, no fees
if you can keep a decent streaming going ie showing your face, decent commentary, get in interesting players you can get tipped by viewers
this should be the only way to go, I'm unlikely to pay for a laggy match I can have for free in public rooms
at last, to keep things interesting increase frequency, weeklies are godlike, 15day period is fine too

I agree with what @shura30 said when it comes down to streaming the entire tournament. A 16 player bracket usually takes me 5-6 hours to finish depending on what difficulties we encounter, but there is a good side, after checking in players can look at their group in the challonge and see if they have time to solve things that come up, like say you're in group D and you need to go buy some stuff for dinner, well you've got plenty of time to do it, with the steam mobile app I can be in contact permanently with the players letting them know how much time they have left.

Yeah man if there is cash involved i would suggest you get like 3 people to test peoples connection beforehand

or atleast a photo an Ethernet cable and speedtest results

War God.
I think lag is unavoidable, due to shit netcode.
It's just something we have to deal with. Fucking pathetic IMO.

This isn't true though, if I stream from PS4 it never lags, looks bad/choppy or randomly dies. Did you check with your provider?

I'm switching provider asap but the stream quality has improved overall and it doesn't die randomly anymore.

Yeah this is not happening yet, just a thought I'm thinking about. It seems like a hassle atm though.

It's decided that the next stream will be winners only.

What isp do you have MsMiharo?
I know some have irregular speeds even with cable, unless your building has fibre.

I've been rolling with a fast ADSL since this house didn't provide fiber BUT I'm changing provider since their promised up and download speed isn't met (in fact about 75% of the time it's about half of what it should be)
