So Guard all does not block a full branch? Interesting.

OK, I got a few questions.

1) All guard even blocks high attacks? (sounds stupid yes, but it is not mentioned

2)How difficult are the infinite combo's in competitive play?

3)How do you know so much information about this game and how do you know that this stuff will work in competitive play?

4)What kind of competition are you around for this game?

5)You claim this game is not broken but isn't 50-50s a broken aspect that used a lot in this game? (especially for Reptile) a game can be broken, but balanced at the same time.

6)How come you ignore some replies people give you?

Just something I was curious thats all.

1. yes, guard all guards even highs

2. this is an interesting question. lets take each character with an infinite..

BRC - his infinite is hard to avoid for certain characters. its almost impossible for some characters to not get hit with his infinite because they have no range game and must come to brc at all times especially characters that cant cross the puke. for those characters even if they get up on life they cant turtle because brc can puke then life up behind the puddle. now, even though life up gives back less and less life each time until you eventually get nothing back, its still handy in the close matches where 1 player would turtle for the win. for characters like scorpion, shang, and drahmin brc has almost no chance of landing the infinite. in fact, brc cannot puke or life up vs them either or even fight them in drunken fist. hso hao is another character that can punish puke and life up and his main stance is a faster stance so its hard for brc to catch him. if brc makes 1 mistake then he will lose big damage and be forced out of drunken fist to catch hsu hao and all that time wont be able to puke or life up either. raiden can also force brc out of drunken fist by using his staff weapon stance, its hard for brc to approach staff and staff can safely reach brc across the puke. frost can also prevent brc from puke or life up. so basically the characters that can punish puke/life ups and force brc out of drunken fist are hard fights for brc and they avoid the infinite well. for the characters that cant cross puke/life up and force brc out of drunken fist the infinite doesnt matter because he beats them just as bad with or without the infinite.

Drahmin - drahmin's infinite is kinda risk/maybe reward. the reason i say this is because if any attempt at an infinite is failed he loses big damage. when this happens his infinite till time out is no longer an option and then IF he lands the infinite he must reset it when it stops taking damage. if he guesses wrong on the reset he again loses big damage. so in reality unless he lands his infinite on his 1st attempt he needs to land an infinite and then reset it to keep it going.

Frost - there are 3 ways to land her infinite... ground freeze, slide to ground freeze, and 1 or 2 hit launcher to ground freeze. here are the problems this presents. her infinite after ground freeze or slide to freeze take almost a full 60 seconds to do a full bar. her infinite after a launcher literally takes a FULL 60 seconds or maybe even longer to take a bar because it does even less damage after a launch. the problem that arises is that if frost tries an infinite and its blocked she loses big life. at this point you can turtle hardcore, once the round has only 30 seconds left she cant really infinite because there wont be enough time to kill you with it. if she comes in you can basically duck and if she tries a mid launcher to infinite there may not be enough time to kill you based on how much life frost has lost. so she cant even launch into infinite at that point either and if she bets you are gonna duck and give up the mid but you dont she again loses big life. if she thinks you're gonna block the mid and tries a low or ground freeze up close and you block that she also loses big damage. so you see... frosts infinite is really time dependent and also means she cant make 1 mistake before she lands in infinite and even if she lands the infinite she has to make sure that shes not down too much life and that theres enough time left. dont forget that if any attempt at the infinite is blocked frost loses big damage and basically loses her chance to land the infinite for the rest of that round.

3. i played this game hardcore with about 20-30 people. we played hardcore every day breaking everything down. some of these players were people like jop and tran who were 2 of the best T4 players in the world as well as a few high level mvc2/3S/alpha 3 players so this also means that i was playing with high level gamers as well. these people got very good at the game so it was easy for all of us to break it down. in my area we had a few big tournaments with an attendance of 90 for 1 of them, and 64 for the other 2 so the game was huge in this area so i had many players. i traveled for tournaments out of my state and even played someone who helped make and test the game. what i write in this guide is 100% fact and will work any anyone anywhere.

4. as i said, i was around very high level competition.

5. to me broken means any bum off the street and pick up something and win with that broken tactic. it may sound easy, but its not. there are ways to avoid all the 50/50's . if you get put in them is because you made a mistake, you cant just walk up to people and ram out 50/50's. and btw... most of the 50/50's get punished big time.

6. i was busy for a while but if you noticed, since i started posting again, i have not ignored any replies.

edited the side step section. sorry for all these edits, i hadn't played mkda in a few years so my memory of it wasnt as sharp.

great man. look you played tran? he s verz good at mkda! i talked to him a lot long time ago on the mko forums.

dont you have old footage of vs play? that would help a lot.

im almost done with the vids for the guide and only individual char combos are left.

i have a few ideas on my head i will pm you soon.

keep it up.

added 2 terms to the basics section. mavado is finished. 1 thing i wanted to say about hookswords 3 is that while its safe on the ps2 version with bdc that its not safe on the xbox version with bdc. tournaments were held on the ps2 version because of all the bugs on the xbxo version including slowdown during matches.

frost is next...

lol, not really. most mkda tournaments were held at events with Tekken 4 and tekken 4 had the option to save matches to memory cards so no one brought equipment to record. there was 1 mkda tourney at nec a few years back but the mkda footage got messed up. i may be able to find some small footage though.

cant post anymore in the 1st thread because its too big now and over the limit for 1 post so the guide is continued below....

great. look i think that the texas shodown mkda tourney is still hosted at mko...
the vids they had were of round 1 when i was vs players that werent very good so you dont see too much there because after i had big leads i was just messin around. the sonya vs sonya vid is ok but i did a lot of tkd2's just tryin to land the combo for the people watching lol. using tkd2 that much vs good people = death. also, that tourney was only a few months into the game and i'd say about 80% of what i ended up knowing wasnt known at that point.

also, small edit to frost.

The tournament was called Tournament In Texas 5 held on March 22nd, 2003. I was in the chatroom helping MK5.org unlock hiddens and costumes quickly with the coin cheat and locations in the krypt.

I located the pages on web.archive.org here:

And amazingly enough, MK5.org still has the videos available:
