Tech roll behaving wierd

[Basic Stupidity]

So i noticed something strange in my tech rolls against a certain setup and was testing it out and ive been getting inconsistent directions of rolls. The darkseid doing the combo is a recording and the only difference is the roll tech timings (or atleast what i think is the only difference)

I tried slowing it down to get a more clear reason as to why it was happening but it was to no avail. First I figured that the roll mechanic must be not one specific timing like wakeups and thats what was causing the difference in directions. However, when i looked back at the clips in slow motion, I could barely tell the difference, if any, between the two different scenarios.

Basically, I was wondering if any of you could see or detect a difference that is causing the switching of the tech roll directions. (besides the obvious hes teleporting. I know that, I want to know why sometimes the roll reacts to it and sometimes it doesnt)
