Well, I'm seeing quickly Ganondorf hits hard and benefits from the system, but his Brawl issues still stand and it sucks too much...much more than I originally thought. Pretty emo about him atm.

I'm trying out Greninja...he seems fun.

He's not terrible (I can think of at least 4 characters worse than him off of the top of my head), but he's definitely not OP and once people learn to play against him it will hurt him.

That said the Tipman Uair Semi-spike is WAY better in this game, especially since Ganon has less to fear from going offstage in this one.

On a different note, important tech was found:

EDIT:

I was going to go to bed, but I can play a couple with you first Riyo.

That toss cancelling tech only seems to work with Peach, Link, and Toon Link though. I couldn't seem to get it to work with Pac-Man. :(

It only works with those 3. Probably because of the way items work when they're spawned in the hand.

Yeah, they are considered to be "natural" items since they are plucked into existence, unlike Pac who basically just makes them "appear" over his head.
Tournaments are undecided on custom moves, and it's possible they could be just for the 3DS version, so I haven't touched them yet.

Also wow Seraph, you play Pacman VERY differently from me (Not a bad thing; I am going to steal some stuff from you actually). I hadn't thought of doing SideB into hydrant; may have to mess with that.
That said you don't seem to abuse his godlike normals much, nor the broken-ness of the galaga ship. His combos are pretty good too, and his Dthrow is godlike (With the obvious drawback being that you have to attempt his shitty grab to use it).

EDIT:

The main thing that I think may kill custom moves would be the fact that custom slots can be equipped with moves AND equipment, and TOs probably won't have time to go around and make sure every player is using JUST custom moves in their custom slots.

I also plan to play Smash 4 competitively. Smash is what got me into fighting games, and this one seems a far cry better than Brawl, so I'll definitely be playing it.

Plus for the first time in forever the characters I want to play aren't shitty :joker:
Thank you. :)

Glad I was able to show you something new to improve your meta with Pac. My issue with using more normals against characters like Robin or Bowser Jr. Is really more match up specific. My experience with Robin caused me to be wary about approaches because of the tools Robin has to keep people out (Specifically Pac), and I really had no idea what to expect from Bowser Jr. Because I haven't even unlocked him yet LOL. But since you bring mention of abusing Pac's normals, which I think are good, I would be interested in hearing more about what makes them godlike. I know you can follow up the dash attack with ftilt and a couple of other moves, but I would like to know what your bnbs are after down throw.

Always willing to share tech for more tech :D One way to get around the weakness of the throw being slow, is to use the fire hydrant's water to "push" and advance you during the animation so you can grab the opponent, or get pushed to safety. I almost always prefer using the throw in conjunction with the hydrant for this reason.

Cheers!

Ok so apparently Greninja is top tier, thoughts or explanations why? I don't see it.
Really fast, great specials, good edge guarding with hydro pump, decent combo potential and good recovery. Only thing he struggles with is KO power, but his ability to pressure off stage kinda makes up for it.

Well, natural items are items that characters can spawn themselves. Wario's bike and diddy's banana also qualify. It's more about the fact that they spawn in their hand. If you drop the item and pick it up again, I'm pretty sure this effect disappears.

About the toss canceling, it only works for both Links and Peach BECAUSE when they are holding their down B items, pressing downB again makes them throw it. This tech requires you to use the DownB method of throwing to cancel landing lag.

I'm going to throw stuff down as I remember it, so there is no particular order to this:

If all hits of DA hit at low %s, you can do a quick Double Jump>Uair with several good but not guaranteed followups after that (I tend to do sourspot Nair>Jabx2>Grab). You can also DJ>Fair>Fair>Jab.
Both of these work off of Dthrow>Dash Attack too. At higher percents Dthrow sets up Fair shenanigans.

Pac Man's jab game is ridiculous. I don't know why, but his jab is stupidly fast AND has great range with the last hit having enough range to beat out some sword users. Since his grab range sucks, I've been using this to punish moves on my shield a lot. On top of that, jab cancels into grabs have given me moderate success.

Bair... well you know how good that move is. Thanks for letting me know that it doesn't scale when I kick my hydrant!

Galaga ship can combo into Fair or DA (Which both can regrab the ship if you time it right) and allow for follow ups. Followups differ if you do or don't have the ship though.

Throwing the galaga ship at your Hydrant's water sends it straight up without killing the hitbox (Need to see what other fruits it affects). This allows you to punish someone trying to jump above it or trying to land.

Nair is amazing. It acts as a combo breaker, and since his other aerials have low lag, especially Fair, it allows you to punish someone for air dodging through your other aerials.

Uair has some crazy disjointed range, and move characters cannot beat it. Abuse the shit out of it.

You can follow your melon Sonic Boom style and grab if the opponent blocks it.

I really like throwing the bell at the ledge since it makes a wall then following it up with a hydrant for yet another wall. It makes recovering against PacMan from below very difficult.

That's all I have for now; I'll hit you up when I think of something else.

Awesome-Sauce. *Jots down notes*

Haha, I feel like they went all out with Pac-Man giving him good tools to use because Namco assisted with development on 3ds and WiiU.

By the way, @Fromundaman , have you had the chance to check this video out? I'd highly recommend it to any Pac player looking to level up their game. It gets RIDICULOUS after the five minute mark.

What's your opinion on Little Mac. He's my main at the moment and I'm digging his playstyle. However, once people "figure" out little mac do you guys think he's still viable?

Can you elaborate on his edge guard game?

I think when people learn how to keep him airborne and off the stage he is going to end up around mid-tier.

I see Little Mac as akin to Johnny Cage from MK9. Excellent ground/rushdown game, but a few glaring weaknesses. I think most people will eventually have a pocket Little Mac, and the metagame will develop enough to where those pocket Little Macs will only take you so far.

Get your guns on. Sheriff is back.
Unless you got a tiny range throw any dodge from anywhere if timed right will set you up nice for a throw into an Up Smash for juggle marathons on the Mac Attack.

Little Mac is fine. He teaches you how to play the game. Block, bait, dodge roll, whif punish shoot to extend juggles and don't forget to use grabs as launcher setups for other moves. No one else breaks a beginner player's bad habits as perfectly as Little Mac. If you play your tools fully he is not a problem. Just a very linear character you have to respect is going to force you to utilize more than just your offensive moves in a match. You don't respect what he is teaching you then you folks can't really respect complaints about how "good" Little Mac is. Upper Mid Tier at best. He has no off stage chase game and has to completely rely on offense and pressure. Break his momentum and he starts to come apart.

After playing Morty, I have to give hats off to the dev team. The netcode is much better than I expected.

We had a small amount of delay (expected due to distance). But really, I wasn't too bothered by it, and the game's input buffer system kicks in nicely to prevent the delay from being as problematic as it could be.

Namco Bandai may have been a big help here. They've really upped the ante for netcodes in fighting games.

Y'all ain't ready for my Rosalina DAWG!

Has anyone been keeping up with the 3DS tournaments? First time stopping by the thread:
Thanks for this. I love watching a good Peach and as always its important to study Rosalina. She is a very tricky character to footsie so watching how folks deal with her and Luma is something I'm trying to do more of. Good to know float gives me a bit safer low hop spacing for Peach vs Rosalina than most folks have. I love playing Peach in Project M. She's different in Smash 4 but still very good...I just got to get used to how much more she needs to veggie in this game. In Project M I was a lot more about float cancels and setting up some up air brella combos and baiting folks into her booty shot. In Smash 4 I'm a bit more low on the screen with how I play her.

What character do you play?

I use Rosalina and thought a couple today at the arcade (Knocking one out of the tournament) so I kind of know how to deal with her.
I know Megaman actually seems to do pretty decent against her.

Ganondorf. I've mained him for nearly a decade. I also play Little Mac (as you could guess given my Ganondorf love) and I have a backpocket Megaman/Peach. I keep thinking REAL hard about co-maining Peach though since she is by far my main in Project M.
