GGs to Phil Simon and Rob tonight on the test stream. Worked pretty well, we'll get out more of the kinks next time. Thanks to the players who checked us out in the chat stream, the number maxed at 23 which is good for no warning.

Also, I checked through my inventory when I cleaned up tonight and I think I now have an extra 360 USB black L connector for the wired controllers. If anyone is missing one let me know, but it might be Nit's. I'll check with him too. I have the correct # and colors for all my sticks and wired controllers.

Also Rob, I tested out that stick I bought from you on MvC through MAME. It works fine except for some reason it was programmed to use the analog stick and the triggers instead of the DPad and Bumpers. I have no idea why or how that happened but it definitely doesn't recognize the buttons correctly. I tried it in Final Burn and I couldn't assign the directionals or the Fierce and Roundhouse buttons, but I could in MAME (F+RH doesn't do anything so no tagging), however it assigned them as X Y and Z axis and not buttons. So I guess we could maybe rewire it and it should be fine.

Too bad I missed the stream. Streaming is a very good idea. S1LENT, a user on MKE, streams SSF4 and I sometimes commentate via skype. I could do this as well if you guys aren't already commentating. It just adds "flavor" to the stream, and it would help the people who have no idea what's going on.

Yeah that would be a great idea, we just gotta get the stream to a more solid flow. The audio was off almost the whole night. We had a couple mics hooked up but they are old and I don't think work anymore.

we had sound for a while, mainly just Rob laughing. lol

Also, i saw in the Best Buy ad this week there is a HD web cam for $40 made by Micro$oft. just an idea. i've never shopped for them but that seems cheap to me.

The stream was alot of fun... and I hope that Rob and I can get something set up soon so we can stream our weeklys. Sometimes we play 2 times a weeks, so it would be great to get some matches in on the stream, LOL. I may go to BB to day and see about that HD webcam Tim. Ultimately, though, I think we're gonna pick up the Hauppague to use.

I picked up that Microsoft Lifecam 6000 HD that Tim mentioned... very small but decent... video may be a little choppy, but I need to test it more with an actual game. Hopefully this week's games at Rob's place.

We prob. won't use that webcam again for streaming... it was very choppy. Shock and I talked last night, and the fact is, it still is just a webcam, so some better equipment is definitely in order for the next stream.

I'm glad you could watch... we should also set up some kind of AIM chatroom as well for just such a case.

Stream was fun tonight. We had better quality with the direct feed and tried the mic, but it was giving some feedback. For some reason the audio just will not sync. It could be the device I'm using to convert the signal to the laptop. Whatever the case may be, I hope the stream was more enjoyable tonight than last time.

We attempted to set up some equipment Phil bought today but it didn't work on the first shot, or the second shot, so we swapped in my equipment and it worked after some minor fiddling with the software. I don't know why I need to do that every time. next time Phil and I get together and try something out I will lay out everything we have and get the simplest, working setup possible.

One good thing Phil picked up is a VGA in, to VGA/RCA/S-Video out box, which can out everything at once. Since the HDTV we used didn't have VGA in or any video outs, we did VGA out from the laptop running UMK3 to the converter box, S-Video to the TV (best option) and from what I could tell there was no conversion lag, at least none worth complaining about which honestly I'm really surprised, and RCA out to the video converter into the other laptop to run the stream. We then did headphone out, split to RCA to the TV and the audio in on the video grabber. We tried to split the audio going to the grabber originally to the mixer to get the Mic out, so we had it half Mic, half game audio, but it caused too much feed back, and didn't mess around with the mixing board enough to get it all sorted out. I will figure it out next time.

I did have some issues on the player one side that I could not figure out what was happening, but P2 was perfect. I was performing Noob Saibot 50% juggles like it was going out of style, and LIMaverick kept saying "How stupid!? What a dumb character!? Oh my God, that's stupid!" lol, stupid.

All in all a good night except the annoying detour I took that wound up adding an hour to my drive. Driving through Brooklyn at 6PM is a bad idea, as I wasted 1/4 tank of gas on the 30 traffic lights I waited for. At least I got to see some Type O Negative song Easter eggs.

So GGs Phil, Rob, and Kevin, and thanks to everyone who watched on the stream. We'll try to start earlier next time, but unfortunately we had the issues with the first video grabber we used, that didn't get fixed until after we were done.

The only way to get rid of the audio lag is to not have it go through any filter or converter. You should put the video through that only and plug the audio directly into the computer. There has to be a setting to set up where the audio is coming from separately from the video. Hearing Forden say "Toasty!" all slow and lathargic is kind of funny though.

Good stuff guys and good performance as usual, sorry for not being there but will be 100% next time.

It really seemed like the streaming computer was struggling with both the audio and the video at times. What are its specs?

I'll get the specs for that laptop later on when I get home. It's a pretty decent laptop though... no older than like 2007. I have another that I can try too which is a little younger and a little more powerful.

The piece I bought to try to stream was this:
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0318824

I can't find the link for the vga converter box but I'll post it, or the brand/model when I get home.

The stream piece seemed to flicker badly and give only a black and white picture. It wasn't until after we were done and breaking down that Shock said that tt has to work, there has to be options...maybe it's grabbing the video as PAL, so there has to be something to change it. He recommended I install the video conversion software, which I did and bingo, the conversion software had an option to choose NTSC or PAL and it immediately changed the capture device to NTSC and I got a stable picture, in color. I will try some tests with it before this week's casuals over at Rob's again(either this Thursday or Friday).

GG's guys... lots of fun... Noob is INSANE. Kevin, great seeing you again. Shock and Rob, as always my brothers, a great time and I am looking forward to the next one! Simon, we missed you bro.

It probably autodetected the signal once the software ran. For some reason when we run the Ion, I always have to go into the settings at least once, even though I don't have to change any actual settings, and only then the green bar and/or flickering goes away after restarting Producer.

Konqrr, you can choose line in for the audio. I will test today maybe and see if that works for sure.

Thinking about it though, I wonder if maybe, Shock, your vcr capture device we use is what is causing the audio sync. My webcam didn't do a great job in terms of video, but the audio was synched from what I understand. I will do some testing tonight to find out.

When I asked around ustream, that USB adapter that you tried was specifically listed as one that worked. So it might be worth a shot getting it working.

Also, I think we can get around the Ustream Producer and just use Flash Media Live Encoder. I think the performance will be better.

EDIT: Justin.TV works that way too. The flash encoder can be used to stream from the computer. And it seems a lot better and more flexible at encoding.

^^ This is what we use here in Utah (have two of them). Works like a charm. We have a couple component splitters to send the feed to multiple tv's, the pvr, and a projector, all with no lag. We also have an audio mixer that we plug the audio and two mics into, then send the output to the pvr.

It's a real pain in the ass to set everything up, but once you do it a few times, it becomes second nature. We have everything setup at a friends house where we hold our tournaments now so we never have to unhook it again lol

If I could ever get Saturdays off again, I could hold an umk3 tourney...someday soon, I hope.

Off: Phi how good is that device for capturing? Thx in advance.

I've seen the steps necessary to use that for streaming. Pretty annoying. It sounds like it will record everything and you are actually streaming a screen grab of its onscreen display.
