I've been waiting for Spawn since MKX, when talks about him just started to spread across the web.
I immediately jumped to him as soon as he came out. Previously I was playing mostly Noob Saibot. So this transition was... Well, it was a struggle for me, so I somewhat understand who finds it's hard to play as Spawn. I would stick to the point of the rest here, just give it more time, don't worry about losses, it will come around.
What people said here in my opinion is true, he is strog in neutral, you have to come somewhat a little bit different game style, be more footsie focused, have patience. I find his V2 by default very good variation. Mind you he has very strong mixup after restand, you go either f413 or throw, if you land f4 first frame after restand recovery. And consider that after nice whiff punishing with a normal cancelled to the shoulder charge. His normal buttons, 34 especially are great, very good to punish 80% of getup attacks, every time for forward rolls. Corner will be scary if you stand on the tip of 3. It's high, but will catch jump outs easily, followed by shoulder charge. This is just great.
His d1 is mad. +15 on hit, then go for 11 or f413 to confirm block or hit (f413 is safe from punishment, f413 fireball can be risky, f413 and cape parry cancel might take by surprise to go for neutral).
Sometimes it's very hard to open up the most patient players, but this is where V3 comes in. You have mixups changed for damage, but little by little you'll get there, he has tools to mess up brains.
tl;dr - he is a solid character, requires some time to adapt to his game style, not very fun to play in beginning, but it will later.
