Spawn Came Out a Little Underwhelming

Yes, his Combo Variation does good damage... his other 2 variations are only OK at best for Damage.
Hes got Zero Mix Ups... even the var 1 Mix is super slow and reactable too.
Only 1 Slow/Punishable Overhead with a so/so pressure game doesn't scare anyone and they simply turtle you

As you all should know by now, mix-ups are not needed. This is not MKX. Spawn is a hit and run, hard whiff punishing character. Your fundamentals have to be on point, Spacing needs to be fully aware, and you need to be hit-confirming all of his strings. I feel like to many people Spawn is underwhelming or not the Spawn they wanted because the Spawn they want is a safe 50/50, rushdown, 15 combo route 45% damage dealer. That just simply does not fit this game wish is what I absolutely love.

You have to outsmart, outspace, bait, and punish your opponent. Spawn has to work a little, but when he does he gets rewarded big. He has arestand that allows buttons to jail and gives layers upon layers of mind games. A Very good 12 frame low that can be hit-confirmed into huge damage. A far foward advancing mid that leads to huge damage. A whiff punishing tool just inside of round start range that deals just as much as Sonya Blade does. Stand 34 whish is an absolutely incredible spacing tool that has no hurt box and is safe on block. An incredible sweep. Pokes that jail and gives huge advantage to let him fight up close. Decent staggers, and a pretty cool throw KB set-up in the corner that has a lot of mind games layers as well.

He fits my play-style to perfection and he can quickly overwhelm an opponent and be very frustrating to play. You have to be patient and play defensively. Maybe he isn't your play style, but I most definitely do not think he is underwhelming. At least not his 2nd and 3rd variations. V1 is absolute and utter garbage. Hope you stick with them and adapt the play style I'm talking about. I think he is incredible and very fun to play. So rewarding when you open your opponent up because you know you were smarter. Anyone can go for a Overhead/Low and hit the opponent because they guessed wrong. What is the skill in that?

You analysis, in my opinion, perfectly epitomizes the root of many peoples' primary issue with Mortal Kombat 11. As much as these folks don't want to admit it, they do not want to outsmart, out-space, bait and punish the opponent in a battle of wits and skills. No, instead, they want to leap in for free and oppressively combo/pressure the opponent to death, knock them down and have guaranteed ways to do it all over again until they win.

This game does not give them an avenue to do free offense without risk like its predecessor did, so instead of admitting that they prefer scrubbiness in their games so that they can win without skill, they prefer to paint this game as utterly terrible in all ways.

Mortal Kombat 11 definitely has issues that are well worth discussion and rightly have caused resentment. However, the way that characters like Spawn play and the meta at large is not one of them. This game allows rushdown folks to pressure and zoners to zone, without favoring either. And it allows patient whiff-punishers to destroy hasty opponents for errors. This game isn't perfect, but it's far closer than any other NRS title to date and it's a lot of fun for folks who enjoy the mental, decision-making aspect of fighting games.

Spawn does have mixups though?
Mix isn't exclusive to high/low pressure.

The fact the first thing you mention is that his other variations have low damage says a lot.

Because he's not as good vs. females. First hit of 11 for some reason completely whiffs on crouch blocking small hurtbox characters.

Otherwise he's pretty good though.

He has INSANE range on his normals (s34 for example) and you can easily hit confirm them into launcher. I'm not sure what else you want. Trying to fight him using a stubbier character is an absolute nightmare.

In the right hands he is super annoying to fight with great buttons and reach at the same time he is VERY clunky and NOT what people wanted (gameplay wise) so almost nobody uses him.

I actually wasn't excited for Spawn at all because I thought he was going to be what everyone wanted. He fits my play-style perfectly and exactly what I want. I hope everyone continues not to play him.

I really wanted to make him work , im big fan of this character and i love how he looks in this game , best looking character with best gear and skins by far . But he sucks . I actually believe he may be low tier , not even mid . There is a reason no one plays him . Hes free to jumping and jumps are big part of this game . His normal sure have long reach but recovery on whiff is terrble . Overall his frame data needs buffs . v1 sucks and everyone agrees on it . v2 may have big dmg but so what ? its hard to open anyone up with hm and if you finally do he will prob have breaker . He gets zoned out by a lot of characters and hes projectile parry with cape sucks . v3 I dont know , not played it much but these pseudo mix ups from what ive seen are easy to escape and punish.Even if he lands something he doesnt get much from it .
