Soul Calibur 6: THE SOUL STILL BURNS!

Tira and Taki were bottom 1 and bottom 2 respectively day 1, so this is kind of ironic.

Taki's pressure, while powerful, is extremely gimmicky. The only option she has that can't be low profiled during demonic stance (or whatever is called) is a slow dive from above, meaning that you can poke out of everything she does with a 2A. If she uses that dive move, it's slow enough that you can block on reaction after the recovery or your 2A and have frame advantage.

Additionally you can bait that dive move by just blocking and step in full combo punish with 22B on reaction, her guard break is mediocre anyway. It's also worth noting that her only string into stance with decent frames on block is a mid to high (6BA I think, but I'm not sure), meaning that if you are ready, you can low profile the second hit and stop her before she even starts.

Also her best get-in move, 66K, is -10 ON HIT. Now don't get me wrong, she's not trash: some characters like Azwel have slower low profiling buttons, and she's problematic for them since that dive move LHs on low crush into huge damage. Mina should win the match up fairly easily though.

Tira is a little bit more complicated. She has some incredibly strong LHs and her damage in Grumpy (or whatever her sad mood is called) is absurd, but she doesn't have much else. My best tips against her is to remember that you can step the second hit of her jump move thing in Jolly and that if she tries to get in with the horizontal mid she's minus ON HIT.

I also know know that lows againt her are extremely risky since her jump B is insanely strong, and that if she changes stance from Jolly to Gloomy (that's the name) with her head butt, she can LH with a low for huge damage. If she starts the round with Gloomy after a round loss she also has an insanely damaging (50% give of take) long range LH off of a mid at the start of the round.

I don't know her as much though.
Oh, my bad! I don't even know these characters names lol. I meant Tahlim, not Tira. I honestly felt like I had no option but RE against that character while using Mi-Na. But like I said - never played the series before and gave up on it quite early. It just felt like Seong had quite a few weaknesses that would have kept her from top tier. I guess I was wrong

Talim was bottom 5 :p

She has been buffed a lot though and of the characters you mentioned she's the one I can actually see being problematic for Mina. That said Talim is extremely weak to aGIs, and Mina has maybe the second best one after Geralt's 4A+B, so it could go both ways really.

If you decide to get back in the game and want tips on Talim I know her pretty well, that said though her kit is quite large and I'm kinda lazy, so I'd rather not go over her unless needed.

nice! I don't even know what aGI means lol. I'm guessing its some kind of guard impact. All I really took away from that matchup was that I hated Talim and felt like Mi-Na was too slow to compete hehe.

I never played online tho. So the only characters I played against were Talim, Ivy, and maybe some X, as those are the ones my partner liked to use. But I honestly felt like I was better off just putting the controller down and walking away when fighting against Talim

Which Tira horizontal mid does she have that's - on hit in Jolly? 66A? It's -6 I believe on NH but it's +2 on CH and 66AA is a KD, but 66AA is -18 and 66A is -16 so it's definitely a risky move outside of SC where she has 66AAA which is -2. Also you can definitely side step her 6BB or GI it but she has 6BK which is a high but it tracks to the sides so it's more of a guess than sure thing dealing with her 6B and extensions, so be wary of that.

aGI means auto guard impact, so yeah! It's those buttons / stances with a GI incorporated. Those usually only inpact against a certain type of moves though, like Azwel's Spear B+K for example only impacts vertials.

Talim is very strong up close, but she has an hard time getting in, and Mina has great keep away.

Yes I mean 66AA, and I knew that she could follow it up in SC, but I didn't know that was minus also! I also forgot that she has a 6BK, I think I saw that move only a couple of times, thanks for the knowledge.

Ah, I see. Guess it just wasn't really my game hehe.

It felt like everything was a guess, all the time against Talim. Even the aGI stuff was a guess. And the RE just led to another rock/paper/scissors game. Keeping her out seemed easier said than done, with her crouching in under everything lol. I ended up going back to I2 :p

Well guessing is definately a big part of the game, but in my opinion not as much as MKX. Spacing and whiff punishing are very important too, and so is block pressure.

RE is terrible though, no arguing there. Easily the worst mechanic in any fighting games period, it alone made half the player base drop. A shame since the base of the game is solid as a rock!

My friend and I were already getting bored with it when luckily I've met a group of italian legacy players, they've taught us the game as it's meant to be played and we rarely use REs or GIs. Now I'm really enjoying it!

Fuck Injustice 2 though.

Ya. Stopped playing MKX for the same reason. Too much guessing, and too much armored nonsense.

Injustice 2 is great, tho. Best NRS game to date! I've got my own issues with it, but still less irritating than any other fighter I've played recently

RE is definitely irritating, I love it when I play Xianghua because it feels like she can sidestep it after basically every button she has, but when I’m Tira I hate it.

I also wish most of the meter gain wasn’t locked behind it. Tira already has issues building meter since she only has 2 semi reliable LHs.

All you have to do is Break RE or Sidestep and Punish, but then again I'm an Astaroth player and I dont care if you hit me with RE.

I WANT you to hit me with RE.

Interesting matches, your Azwel is pretty clean, you just got mixed by voldo, which is what Voldo tends to do.
To my defense I've never played against a good Voldo before, he's new in our group. I'll have chances to learn the match-up from now on though, which is great.

Thanks by the way :)

EDIT: After rewatching the match I've gotta say: I've made a billion mistakes. It was getting kinda late and I was getting kinda tired, but damn I still have so much to learn. Luckily I don't think I'll drop the game completely even after MK11 drops, so there's time.

Yeah, I really enjoy that about Soul Calibur. Character execution outside of being consistent with raphael is pretty low atm, what there is to constantly learn and improve on is movement and neutral and how to properly tech trap and oki.

Getting matched against significantly better people is a fun experience too, I got matched against Lolo’s Yoshi on PS4 ranked once and he rinsed me pretty hard match 1 and 3. It was fun though and it forced me to lab Yoshi more and Tira’s options against him.

We have a couple of tournament players too. They are obviously one or two tiers better than us, but we can put up a great fight!

It’s a shame that you’re on a different platform, I need Azwel experience because I don’t know anyone who plays Azwel so my only Azwel experience comes from the very rare ones I see post patch in ranked. I see more Tira than I do Azwel and she’s pretty rare on PS4.

Most people that played him day 1 were just tier whores, which I find odd since he seems to be such an amazing character to me. But I guess people don't like to play villains so much, i just hope he comes back in future titles.

His kit is super unique and interesting. Also, people love Nightmare and he’s a villain, but he’s also a scrub crushing potato that’s easy to pick up vs. Azwel who you actually need to learn post nerf.

Nightmare might be a villain, but he's also a poster boy, and people love poster boys. Honestly the only poster boy I don't see played it's Mitsurugi, but he's legit the most boring character on the select screen free.

I agree, but you should watch Hyunmuu’s Mitsurugi, that guy is a maniac and his Mitsu is insanely entertaining

Well then, yeah, he’s just a super generic samurai guy. I guess it’s his thing but it’s definitely not exciting, I agree.
He's worse than that, have you played Libra of Souls? The guy is always broke and acting like a fool, he honestly looks more like a joke character than anything else. I don't know what they were thinking.

Come on Sass, you know he wont cause he's just a cheap Algol.
