NEUTRAL
Ryu's neutral requires patience, as he doesn't have good advancing moves and stubby pokes, except for one. Here's how to play neutral effectively with him.

His BEST cancelable poke that you will be using during your matches is his D3, which is a long reaching kick. However, it doesn't push him forward. You can easily cancel it into a Donkey Kick (D2) for a small 18% combo, or a Hydoken (S2) on block and on hit.

Hydoken (S2) will be your saving grace to control neutral, along with his D3 poke. With Hydoken you can stop rushing opponents, force them to jump over the projectile, and proceed to punish with a Shoryuken (F2). You can also use the buffed up version of it, after applying the Denjin buff (DD3) for a knockdown. Which gives you a perfect setup for D3 pressure if you're close enough.

S4 is his best punish, but you have to react quickly to DRC for a full combo.

PRESSURE
Ryu has some pretty good up close pressure mid-screen and in the corner, but because of his fireball he's also pretty good everywhere on the screen. Here's how to pressure your opponent with Ryu.

D3 has some good mind games, you can D3 punish into Donkey Kick (D2) for a punish combo. You can also D3 into Hydoken (D2) on block, and follow up with a grab, or another D3. D3 Hydoken on hit is the same, and it's even crazier in the corner.

If you're really close D11 and S11 are good to pressure with Hydoken, and you can throw them in the same sort of mind game as with D3. It's also important to sometimes walk back to throw a D3 as well as they can easily throw you after a Hydoken on block.
