Skarlet Living MU thread

Skarlet scientist
I do not intend to build this thread on my own, so i'm calling forth all Skarlet players who have been putting some work so we can have a general idea of how our character stands, there is a slight difference between Heart Pierce and Blood Drive so put MU numbers of Heart Pierce on Left Slash MU from Blood Drive on right.

I played a few matches with a bunch of ppl including online ranked sets, a lot offline and even with some disturbing lag managed to play some ppl here on TYM so i will share only MU i had experience with, and i hope we can take on this thread to start tackling MU issues and find solutions together, this will also make the community grow faster and find better tech an answer to certain specific MUs before we start asking for buffs.
As of now, i think Skarlet its exactly where she needs to be, she is balanced, she has a strong keep away game, one of the best fundamentals based characters in game, a weak defense up close, but mobility compensates because she covers distance quickly better than the rest of the cast, low damage combos, but zoning keep away game adds up to the math much easier, decent anti-airs, terrible lows outside of b3, and a good d1 to escape pressure.

Heart Pierce has better defense and run away options, more Krushing Blows and better health gain
Blood Drive has better space control, a much stronger offense and a terrible up close game

MU numbers meaning:
5-5 Even
6-4 Slight advantage
7-3 Heavy advantage
8-2 One sided MU
9-1 un-winnable

I will start by putting in the ones i think are hardest and we go from there building the easiest ones, if you guys can also give more details so we can start to work on those issues it would be a god send.

Vs Scorpion Reborn
4-6 / 3-7
Heart Pierce does better in this variation, but Scorpion shuts down Skarlet zoning with the constant threat of his teleport which he can cancel and bait making Skarlet stand still for very long

Vs Scorpion Searing Rage
6-4 /4-6
Teleport still a constant threat, but not canceling gives Skarlet more room to work with, Parry also nulifies the chain by a mile

Vs Erron Black 52 Pick up Kard
5-5/ 5-5
I think this MU is even on both Ends, Skarlet Standing 2 can hit Errons as he stands after F4, the same Standing 2 and standing 1 both hit erron's out of his F4 and slide start animation.

VS Noob Saibot Black Sabath
6-4/6-4
Skarlet outranges noob in neutral, while she has to be carefully zoning her teleport counters shadow charge and blood trail counters ghost ball (not sure if its called the same in this game) he can teleport on read and has to zone very carefully to bait the trail, but Skarlet can really play without it.

vs Jade Emerald Defender
I have this MU currently at 5-5 but i don't have much exp with it, last time me and @THTB tried to play the lag was so strong so it was impossible to gather as much data needed for it.

vs Kano Ripper
6-4/ 5-5
Played with Error, pretty fun MU, Skarlet can give Kano a hard time to get in and may need to take risks to do so, but up close he has an edge and its much harder to block, keep him out and you win, keep him close and you struggle.

Jax
6-4 (By Jbeezy)
Jax struggles to past zoning range, however like any other pressure character once he is in, its a uphill battle, still as long as Skarlet manages to keep him out which she can do it often, its a MU that works at her favor, a clear 6-4

Vs Kotal Kahn (Saltshaker)
6-4/ 6-4
Kotal struggles to approach, and when close doesn't have much he can do specially against heart pierce which has better defense, it doesn't take long before he goes back to fullscreen

Vs Kitana
Need more exp

vs Liu Kang
Needs more exp (played very few online)

The others i haven't played consistently or really strong users so i can't share data on them so far, currently waiting for more feed backs

But to be a bit serial for a moment....Ive faced alot of Jax. And I must say, I win more than I lose against him. But once he gets in, babY its hella hard to get him off with those staggers. Id say Skarlet 6, Jax 4

In Zoning We Trust
@Eddy Wang Do you mean 3-7 on the Scorpion MU? I know you can't be saying Blood Drive Skarlet wins it 7-3 against Reborn lol.

Otherwise I agree. I would add I think the Kotal MU is rough for Kotal, the variation without the totems (forgot the name). My main bud plays Kotal as his #2 and it's even harder for him against Skarlet than my Cetrion. Gotta be 6-4, or worse even. He gets zoned out to the max, and when he gets in, he doesn't do much before she lands pressure or one hit to push him 3/4 away again. That's against Heart Pierce.

Yeah i definitely meant 3-7, fuck scorpion and his reborn variation, teleport so fast and when cancel has little to no recovery at all, its even better than his MKX version where he had a 24f recovery, he could still use it to space and avoid shit but here its just over the top

will update with the Kotal MU.

The ideia is to find all the struggling points and start to work in her favor from there, so far most of the MUs that favors her its due her zoning being hard to bypass mostly and in one hit she sends anyone back to fullscreen which its a big deal unless of course its fucking Reborn Scorpion.

The only change I want is for her B2 scythe krushing blow to not require two consecutive hits.

And if course for her Kold war skin to finally be released

Probably an unpopular opinion but I don’t think Scorpion is that onesided. You just have to play completely different. Watch King Gamblers set from Sunday to get a good idea of this match up.

He definitely struggled a lot, in Reborn Scorpion has a slight advantage.
In this MU Skarlet can't zone, meaning there is no damage to add up to your combos, to have a pretty good idea
Blood Tentacle does 20% chip
Blood Shot does 18.75% chip
Blood Ball does 20% chip

Skarlet 212, 212 44~db4f does 294.16% damage

If you do this combo and as they wakeup you force them block another tentacle, Skarlet will do 310.16% damage total.
If you do this combo but instead of 44~db4f you do a blood ball the combo will do 251.8 damage adds the blood ball chip its 270.8% damage adds the tentacle chip right after and its 290.8% damage.

Basically you will hardly force scorpion to block those moves which adds up to your damage, meaning you are fighting with far less than he can deal in one read.

Jade 4-6/ 3-7 Emerald Defender

I'm a fairly average player, but I fought a Jade last night that mopped me pretty good.
  • Her Air Razor Rang allows her to float above all your projectiles.
  • She nullifies all your projectiles with Dodging Shadows, and will chip away at your health with her projectiles. You can occasionally do a blood tentacle, but a good Jade player can easy block it.
  • Skarlet has good range but Jade has equal range and what seems like faster mid range pokes
  • Teleporting was the only way to get close, but all her moves allow her to create separation quick
  • Jade's anti air with back 1 and down 2 is really hard to get in.
  • Some of Jade's unsafe moves seemed very safe with online input lag
Playing against Jade last night made me want to pick her as a pocket character.

I was thinking wouldn't Blood Drive would be a better variation against Scorpion? I mean, you have Cell Syphon to catch Scorpion trying to jump backwards for that teleport shenanigans. I think it would be better to shut that down, no?

I have to say, Jax feels more like 5-5. You are literally fucked once he gets in. Good Jax players know how to get in.

Skarlet has the tools to keep him out for the most part, but I feel like I'm hanging on for dear life the entire match. The slightest of mistakes, and you lose. Heart Pierce has far teleport as a saving grace - it is the only reason I've ever won a match against a Jax. His pokes and staggers beat every single one of Skarlet's buttons.

Also I'm pretty sure I played an amazing Jax player, 25 matches and it was 13-12. So feel free to take with a grain of salt.

Scorpion's teleport is far more dangerous on the ground, and the true point of disadvantage here is distance, Scorpion is always closer to Skarlet whenever he wants and Blood Drive is weaker than Heart Pierce up close, the second he gets in, its a struggle.

Your circumstances are dire!
May I ask how everyone is feeling about the noob saibot MU? Even though I think it's 5-5 on the highest level, I feel like his neutral is way better, his teleport is a hugggeee threat, skarlet can't punish his b23 ( or something like that string), plus he can zone as well.

Skarlet's F2 covers what other her normals don't, and can be used to keep any character at perfect distance specially because she can cancel with bf2 on correct spacing and still be +1, its a barrier

Still to find a better normal than f2 in this game

I just have to play the matchup more. I've only come across one Jax online that was even remotely good

I'd imagine this is as good a thread as any to ask this question. Which strings have big enough gaps for a parry? So far I've labbed Liu Kang and Scorp.

Liu Kang's F43(gap)U3 is enough for a parry.
Scorp's 21(gap)2 is parryable as well. None of his F3 and F4 strings seem to be parryable though you can flawless block the second hit.

Anyone knows of anything else?

there is a bunch, didn't had a time to make a list yet, but every single one of these gaps Skarlet can parry, she can also jab counter with her 7f normal which is 2 frames faster than the parry.

I think if the parry was 7f too, it would be more pratical because using as reversal we would actually get a 7f parry move, right now there are things you can't parry out of certain gaps, and when you can, you just jab them out of it much easier. So its a lost oportunity.

Tbh the only real MU that I feel is definitively a 4-6 for her is Scorpion. Everyone else is 5-5 or in her favor. What other MUs are possibly bad for her in her heart pierce variation? That variation helps me out defensively a lot.

Son ov Timett

Bork, No Jin
Mus I find annoying at face value, but are getting better with mu exp.

Cetrion, Sub. Prob 5-5s, just need to grind. Improving in both.

Scorp potentially a 5-5, but need to play smart af.

Also any player that can consistently flawless block every gap is a nightmare. This dame has more gaps than Brazzer's House.

Mu I find bad, but may be personal and Im soliciting advice on is Noob Saibot.

May I ask how everyone is feeling about the noob saibot MU? Even though I think it's 5-5 on the highest level, I feel like his neutral is way better, his teleport is a hugggeee threat, skarlet can't punish his b23 ( or something like that string), plus he can zone as well.
His soul ball projectile is main issue for me. Even with low blood ball counter zoning and tongue on kd, seems to be a battle of attrition. Seems whoever gets the life lead is at advantage, but Noob hits harder, so ye csnt coast.

Have to take his air sickle tele out of the equation. Just f1 as soon as ye see him toss it, but if hes too close, turd lands behind ye. Mayhaps d1 in these scenarios? /TheoryCrafting

"Jax struggles to past zoning range, however like any other pressure character once he is in, its a uphill battle, still as long as Skarlet manages to keep him out which she can do it often, its a MU that works at her favor, a clear 6-4"

Sounds like a 5-5

I think Sonya is either a 4-6 or 3-7. I swear Sonya outzones Skarlet with the constant threat of double fireball in projectile trades. She also has one of the fastest wave dashes in the game. If she ever knocks you down she can cross the whole screen in the knockdown time but she doesn’t even need to get in to win IMO. And speaking of getting in, she has better pokes and will eviscerate you in the corner and can restand you which stops one of skarlets best oki tools. (U3) Also 2 hits for Sonya can easily win a round. I might need more matchup experience and to figure out a better game plan but I could just be zoning her out completely wrong.
