The back throw kb might be for when you use it to reversal punish. Similar to shao kahn's throw kb. Notice how she did it after nightwolf's unsafe shoulder charge.
I'd prefer that tbh. It also looks like it could be a launcher so maybe. Maybe there's even some other unique requirement like Shang's back throw.
