Should blocking cost stamina meter?

One thing that has always bugged me about MK is that you can just lay on the block button and be somewhat invulnerable.

Sure you take chip, and sure you can't tech throws while holding the block button, but should their be a more harsh consequence for just laying on the block button?
How are u invulnerable with that ammount of chip damage? Tell that to someone facing JC -.-

No. MK has chip dmg to make up for the possibility of holding the block button all day.

:| Why recommend draining stamina? Just make negative edge a thing.

Also honestly good luck blocking Ferra/Torr or Kotal or, god forbid, commando Kano. Belly to back suplex too stronk.

i think its a great idea. and i honestly people that dont agree are just MK9 diehards. with MKX and the stamina bar, they want it to be a faster paced game. more rushdown, obviously there will be zoning characters, but for the most part i believe the way NRS is going.. is for rushdown..

having a limited block will promote a faster rush down game and more scrambles.. which i believe MK has always been about.

bravo, awesome idea..

i also do think blocking should slow stamina regen.

PS: this is purely MKX speculation so please dont quote me on some "but if u go against cage he will just chip u to death or break your block" bull shit. thank you.

I don't feel blocking should cost you stamina meter. There's chip damage, so that helps but one thing I WOULD get past is if someone is making love to the block button for more than 15 seconds straight or 10 something like that, the person on offense should get a free throw meaning from all the blocking the other person becomes some what stunned(not for a combo that's too much) but just a throw, because in the past throws were blockable oldschool MK and that was annoying, there are throw techs now but I wouldn't mind this idea for blockers people who like to block for like 30 seconds straight.

This thread is a huge bill, epic fail.

Aside from that, to perform a breaker in MKX, you will need 100% of the stamina meter plus two levels of enhanced meter, do your homework first.

dude chip damage is enough of a fucking advantage for pressure in mk... 1 percent chip per normal doesnt not help fucking blocking out plus meter burn... i think it owuld be cool if chip was reduced and stamina was effected by blocking... there would a more balanced tradeoff on both sides. if chars have better mixup games in mk x then having tons of chip and a run button might be super strong for offense...

well... perhaps zoning/spacing will be favored instead of offense because of run reducing stamina... the guy who plays at a contain space is in favor...

No, I like trying to get my opponent to just freeze and block for days. I don't want to give them more incentive not to. I mean it's an interesting concept but I think this mindgame is one of the things nrs got right in mk9

I am one for guard break but stamina should not be used for defense as well in a fighting game. There are way too many variables and using your movement meter combined with you defense is just a bad idea.

The chip/meter building system when blocking attacks is a product of a having block button system which we already know MKX has. OP is stating that the negatives of holding block to long isn't enough to force the person who is blocking to be proactive enough to make commitments to try and escape said block strings pressure, and he thinks depleting stamina would be a better substitute at doing that job. Problem with this claim is OP really doesn't provide any evidence that shows chip/building meter failed to force ppl to open them self up when trying to escape offense.
