I agree, I actually thought it made a lot more sense and was a lot more personal since he's directly stealing his opponents soul to transform.
It makes him more of his own character as well.
One thing they do need to do for him is improve is life leeching stuff.
His grab did it, barely, but I think they should change that.
He should be given an attack for this, maybe even a command grab. I'd like for it to give back a noticeable amount, but the recovered life comes in a different color and slowly drains, for the sake of balance.
