It's what we expected, another character to be teased, but we never know which one. With the latest Killer Instinct character being Kan-Ra - when his reveal trailer went live there was a certain anticipation for the end of it... "who will they tease next?" Just like many classic and nostalgic characters in the world of Killer Instinct, the dinosaur 'Riptor' was teased. You can check it out for yourself in the Kan-Ra trailer below!

Today over on the Ultra-Combo.com forums (the official KI forums) Ishmae1 posted another textual stream including lots of new information. Riptor's trailer along with gameplay stream will be airing this Monday, 12/15/14.

For now, here's what we have to bite on.

Red Reaper

The Hyrax Whisperer
I was hoping for him in the early days..

But more recently it has been the opposite. If he's not in then I kan kontinue to justify not buying the game (and an XBone).

It seems for the interest in general for KI here is about non-existent. @RM GamerBlake and I have discussed if we want to actually stop covering the game. Gotta say it does get challenging updating the front page based off of two games, while other sites that update every day base their news off of basically all fighting games.

I usually see KI news (I usually just look at the title) and think: "That was good news, but I don't have an XBone."

I'm guessing that's what quite a bit of people do too (which would explain lack of views). In that sense, people would be glad for the information but they wouldn't be as excited. So if you're finding it hard to fill the front page with only two games then its good to keep on going with the news. (Assuming I'm right...) Because those people, plus the KI followers, might make it more worth it.

But if there's heavy MK news or something then that should probably take precedence.

I just started ki a little over a month ago. I've actually found the tech threads here more helpful than ultra combo. I look forward to the stream and more riptor info

I always appreciate the KI news on here. If people really don't know the connection between MK and KI, then they obviously are too young to have played them when they were both in arcades. The two games basically went hand in hand.

Are we not gonna' cover SF5 when it comes out? Because it's consol specific? I come on here for news on all games. Especially KI and MK. I might not even play SF5, but I'll steal read up on it and what not. You know?

This.

Killer Instinct is basically a part of Mortal Kombat Kulture.

Unless we suddenly get a new Primal Rage, Killer Instinct is the only surviving klone- and despite it probably being less popular than even Street Fighter is here, it's still a large part of Mortal Kombat.

This site should start covering other fighters too. Cover SFV why not?

How is KI a part of the Mortal Kombat Culture? Because 20 years ago Midway help Published the game with Nintendo?

I always thought the two games were different besides having finishing moves. They don't even have that now anymore with the new game. Both MK and KI are two different games now.

Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat borrowed heavily from each other. Killer Instinct was literally considered a Mortal Kombat clone.

you say "besides having finishing moves" but you need to recognize that it was a HUGE DEAL that both had finishing moves at the time. Finishing moves were crazy and new at the time, and it wasn't mere coincidence that both had them. No Mercies were inspired by fatalities, Brutalities were inspired by ultra combos, stage finishers, copious amounts of blood and gore, etc etc.

And Mortal Kombat is still a huge influence on Killer Instinct today. The first new Killer Instinct character introduced in 2013 was Sadira- who is heavily reminiscent of the Mortal Kombat art style (like, heavily- she looks like a straight-up MK character).

...and if you need further proof the games share the DNA of each other deep inside... the first new character introduced for MKX was ALSO a bug-lady.

@STORMS
I, for one, really appreciate the coverage of KI. One thing I would take into consideration is the age demographic of the people who appreciate KI. Those of us (I'm 32) who grew up on MK and KI are probably busy with careers, life, and other such obligations. As a result, people may not be as active on this website as the younger group with nothing but time to sit here and comment/debate things.

That you cover KI is what keeps me coming back to this site. MKX is a cracked and dry riverbed, and Injustice is on the downward slope. So yeah, an ever evolving and constantly updated game is exactly what is needed to maintain interest for people; KI offers just that.

Cheers and Merry Christmas!

I'm glad someone agrees with me. Well put, sir.

Also, if you guys don't care/like KI, then don't click the story. It's that simple. There's literally been nothing new on MKX in months, so I appreciate the KI stuff a lot. I don't see why TYM can't be like SRK and report on multiple fighters. Shit, I read about fighting games I've never even played just because they interest me.

@STORMS When it comes to fighting game news I go to testyourmight.com first, then to shoryuken.com. If TYM had stories about all different fighting games I could skip shoryuken alltogether :D

But it would be much more work for you guys and also shoryuken attracts a lot of trolls in their comments compared to tym (I think the more varied games you discuss the more some people will hate on some of them because they are not to their taste).
