REAL Mortal Kombat Tier List Project

REO

Undead
J360 and I were discussing we need a REAL tier list for this game, and we would like one some time soon. However, this isn't like OTHER games so we need to do something special and more effective for this particular game. Guys, it's time to be real and take charge with what we got and make the best of it. Character representatives selected for the other project can do one for the character they were chosen here also, if they would like to. Now I present you the Tier List project:

**IMPORTANT READ FIRST** PLEASE KEEP IN MIND FINISHED PROJECT OF TIER LIST POSITIONS MAY VARY DEPENDING ON PLAYER'S MAIN. EXAMPLE: SEKTOR PLAYERS THINK SMOKE IS TOP 5, WHILE SMOKE PLAYERS WILL THINK KUNG LAO IS TOP 5. EXAMPLE 2: SONYA PLAYERS THINK KABAL IS TOP 5, WHILE KUNG LAO PLAYERS WILL THINK JOHNNY CAGE IS TOP 5.

Character format example

YELLOW = STAGE
GREEN = PLAYER ADVANTAGE
RED = CHARACTER
NO COLOR = NEUTRAL

Example: Kabal

4-6 vs Jax - Character Select Screen

3.5-6.5 vs Jax - Pit Stage

3-7 vs Jax - Pit stage + Player 1 advantage for Jax

4.5-5.5 vs Jax - Rooftop stage

5-5 vs Jax - Rooftop stage + player 1 advantage for Kabal

Example 2: Kabal

6.5-3.5 vs Cyber Sub-Zero - Character Select Screen

6-4 vs Cyber Sub-Zero - Pit Stage + Player 1 Advantage for Cyber Sub-Zero

7-3 vs Cyber Sub-Zero - Rooftop Stage

7.5 -2.5vs Cyber Sub-Zero - Rooftop Stage + Player 1 Advantage for Kabal

Discuss.

Stages are incorporated.

Edit: and...... umm...... hitboxes...

Edit2: does this P2/P1 think really change the MU by .5?

I really think the default stage for tournaments should be The Courtyard. (DAY)
It runs smooth, it isn't too small nor too big, it is default select for color blind players (mind you, some color blind players may not even speak up, and choose to hide it,)

But I can do one for Kitana and Sindel if you'd like

I stuck the hitbox part at the end just for shits and giggles, disregard that. The player advantage weight depends on the match up. It won't be as severe in a match like Noob vs Ermac, but it will be in a neutral-city match like Kitana vs Cage.

Yes, please. It'd be greatly appreciated if you could do one for Sindel, above all.

REO how is it 7-3 for Kabal against Cyber Sub on the rooftop but then you give the player 1 advantage to Cyber Sub on the same stage but the match actually gets WORSE for Cyber Sub?? (7.5-2.5)

I may not understand entirely what your doing here(and in truth there are probably some NASA engineers that would have a hard time with this) But that doesnt make sense to me.

EDIT:Nevermind, you fixed it lol

That was typo, it was supposed to say Kabal. Fixed.

You left some variables out. Daytime vs nighttime stages, costumes, no lag/medium lag/extreme lag, CRT monitor vs LCD, widescreen vs regular orientation, the online warrior factor, Komplete edition or not, did your opponent shower and how close to them are u while the match is taking place......just to name a few.

This is a serious thread.

If some of you are content with the current project where everyone just tags everything as 5-5 or 6-4, then I don't know what to say.

When will players start acknowledging that there are things within this game that certainly affect match ups?

I think most of us accept the fact that there are other variables other than skill that affect character matchups. But i dont think tier lists should encompass very possible scenario. They should be broad and general.

For example, on a general basis, Jax beats Kabal by some margin. Following this evidence, we list it as a 6-4 matchup. A Jax player can best a Kabal player with less effort required. By bringing up stage levels, what player they are (P1 or P2), the controller they are using, and etc. we are becoming way too specific. We no longer are sure as to whether or not Jax is a good counter pick to Kabal, now we are worried about the stage selection and stage lighing and etc. We should be focusing on "Jax beats Kabal". Because that one fact alone is what matters to people, not all these other possible scenarios.

I feel as if the real matchup data will be lost in a sea of meaningless exceptions and random occurrances.

Are ya' ready for MK11 kids?!
Very interesting and something I'd be willing to look into, shorter stages seem to favor Scorpion and it may help to break down his ridiculously long list of 5-5s.

Anything come to mind?

I think all of Sub Zero's match ups should be done on the Deadpool, being such a small stage it effects his match up slightly.

So it sounds like the best bet is to just used a medium sized stage that gives an equal chance to both zoners and rushdown characters.

Big ups to you, Reo. The more that goes into breaking this fucker of a game down, the better.

I'm gonna do some homework on Cyrax/Cyblax and the effects the stage sizes have on his Bomb game.

The Pit day is the smallest. 214 slide one time and you're practically in the corner :)
But I prefer a big stage in Sub mirrors and Sub vs Cage

Your signature makes my heart happy :).

I agree in that big or little both fit Sub in certain matchups...some, like Quan who aren't exactly deadly in the corner, you want to be somewhere small to crush them in, but if you're fighting a Johnny or a Jax who's as deadly or worse than you against the wall, I want as much room as possible to lure them into a Clone or an EX Slide setup.
