Official Rules For P1 and Stage Advantage

There should be a community wide set rule for these things because i could see this definitely becoming an issue in the near future. Here is my take...

At the beginning of a match there should be a coin flip. Whoever wins gets to choose player 1 advantage or stage advantage. If you choose p1 advantage then you got that the rest of the set but the other person has stage adv. What's chosen is chosen and no switching between each match. This will make it run quickly and be fair to both parties. That's imo of course.

Thats a good idea but waht if they changed both had to randomly switch each adv regardless of proceedings? Like (A) gets to choose p1 or stage, and chooses p1. Then (B) gets to choose stage for the first game. So regardless of who wins match 1, (A) now only gets to pick stage for game 2 and (B) gets p1. And let it alternate like that?

I like it, and hopefully would make tourney goers delve deeper into the game

Thing is it's kind of a pain to keep switching p1 and p2, it would take up tournament time. I mean i realize it's not difficult but to be doing it every match could get ridiculous. That's why i proposed what i did.

Switching P1 and P2 is as simple as holding the home key and changing controller assignment. Takes about 10 seconds.

The issue with "stage advantage" is either player can request Courtyard day, so...

don't you have to back out of the player select screen first to do it? I can't remember now lol

BTW people were doing rock paper scissors at FV for p1 advantage. then hey had it the whole time and nothing was discussed about what p2 could get, like stage advantage. That's why i think we need something like this officially.

That's my favorite stage. Why the hate baby?
No hate, I'm saying you can't give one player P1 advantage and one player stage advantage, when Courtyard is the default stage anyways, the "stage advantage" player would just get screwed.

Nah, just switch controller assignments and be on your way.

Perhaps I'm out of the loop on this. Why is the courtyard the default stage in this scenario?

It's the stage used for colorblind players, and I believe if a stage agreement can't be met it is the stage to be used. If you really want to be a dick, just play the colorblind card. Nobody can verify one way or another.

Another problem is switching button settings, which would cause the need to do another button check blah blah blah...

Coin flip for P1 advantage which will remain for the whole set.
First stage - random, loser gets to choose character/stage if he desires.

If there is a coin flip, which is a huge pain in the ass, then winner gets P1, loser get stage select.

Thoughts?

This is true but many players would want to re-button check after the side switch and controller assignment switch just to make sure they are all good and if this is happening on every match it would definitely take a while

Chances are someone's gonna get screwed either way, such as in a mirror match where P1 will have definite advantage. Then you have certain match ups like sz v kitana, where regardless of who's player 1, the person who chooses the stage will benefit more.

Courtyard's an awesome stage for game play anyways. Symmetrical, average size and visual cues in place to tell me where the center is and exactly how far I am from the corner. Coliseum is also average in size and is symmetrical.

How about a coin flip twice? One for P1 and one for stage.

That was basically my proposal except maybe the winner would rather have stage so I left the choice up to the winner. With some match ups I would rather have stage personally. Mainly against Kabal.
