Why is it whe nrs makes 2 smash hits mk9 and igua" the first 1 "they drastically change their next installment of the next game. Mk9 was a few patches from being fighting game royalty imo injustice not far behind. Then a complete over haul for the games does this make sense! Mk9 had hype tournaments were packed and even with the busted game it was players showed up! Maybe nrs should try not reinventing the wheel every game and just improve on their og greats. Just my opinion. Comment if u want. Agree or disagree?

I feel like thats why the community is so fractured. In the last 10 years Mortal Kombat has gone through 3 vastly different iterations. Each one introducing new people who butt heads with fans of the previous game.
Nah I don't believe that. I'm someone who has played every mortal kombat and a huge fan of the franchise. I'm definitely not the only one bc this forum still exists. I loved MK9 alot. Like most of the people on this site. But the game had so many bugs and it was not "a few" patches away like the OP said. There are reasons why we stopped playing it.

The reason why people clash heads about MK11 is bc most of the people that don't like it do not give specific or credible reasons why. Instead they attack the game with false narratives on an MK fan site. There are people on the site that call the game broken and some that say this is the most unbalanced game in NRS history. People who do like the game are stuck trying to defend it bc of the bs being spewed and no real discussion takes place most of the time.

I guarantee you that the people that like this game want changes to it as well....but it gets lost in all the bs.

My point isn't about whether people like MK11 or not, its about how MK9 set a standard, MKX took it to 11 and then MK11 dialed it lower than its ever been. 3 games all drastically different from eachother. Imo, thats why this community has so much infighting.

I understood your point I just disagree with it (respectfully ofc). Yes all games 3 mk games are drastically different. But at the end of the life of MK9 people did not want MK9. They wanted something new and upgraded. Same with MKX.

I brought up MK11 bc out of all 5 NRS games, this is by far the one that has most divided the community. And IMO it isn't bc the game is different from the others.

Dude, you can't disagree with a fact. Some people don't like the constant change of their FG. Others like you clearly do. Whether or not someone enjoys MK11 is irrelevant to this fact.

At the end of MK9 many people wanted UMK9. Not everyone wanted a new game.

-___-....so fighting in the community existing bc all mk games are different is a fact? This is the kind of shit I'm talking about.

You can't demand that everyone thinks as you do. Just accept that some people are not into changing their FG every 2 years. They need more time to learn and understand the game properly.

This thread is not about MK11 balance issues and other MK11 problems.

Nah I feel you, of course people get tired of a game towards the end of its life cycle. Tekken 7 was the hottest fighter for a while, but now Season 4 is here a lot of players are just tired of it and ready for T8.

I'm just doing guess work here, but I don't think Tekken 8 is gonna be a huge departure from 7. Its one of the most legacy intense fighters out. Some players are going to be turned away by whatever new mechanics are in it, but you're still going to recognize it as Tekken. Its a crapshoot with Mortal Kombat. We legit have no idea what MK12 is going to be like lol.

I personally adore MKX. Its busted, its unfair and its janky at times, but god damn is it fun. When I finally put down MKX I still felt like there were so many characters I wanted to learn. MK11 is here and I'm still struggling to find a character I love. Like I want to love MK11. When you walk into my house the first thing you see is a big ass display case with MK stuff everywhere. So like I'm here trying to toss out suggestions to make the game cater to my likes (huge combos, fast movement, meter management) and I'm discussing it with people who love MK11's style (Neutral focused, less combo intense, very strong defensive options). No doubt we're butting heads, but its not just because I'm raging over MK11

Bruh...I'm not demanding anything. I stated an opinion on a post. You are making alot of assumptions here. So let me make myself clear.

I do accept that people don't want a brand new fighter every 2 years (never said that I didn't). And personally I would like that we would have a base to build off of from game to game. When I said "people didn't want MK9 at the end of its life cycle", I meant that people didn't want it WITHOUT improvements. When I said that people wanted something new and upgraded that included something like a "UMK9". People didn't want dogshit net code, P1 bug, cyrax infinites etc.

I'm not making it about MK11. I explained the reasons I brought it up in the previous post.

This i totally agree on lol. No idea what Mk12 would even look like lol.

And yeah personally Id prefer a base game with an identity that gets improvements each iteration.

Ok I get your point, just wanted to clarify that this thread is not about trashing MK11.

It's true that nobody wanted MK9 without a patch. The problem is that the game had so much room for improvement and even perfection, but instead was abandoned in a trash state.

Then MKX was totally overhauled a few months before Injustice 2 was released, leaving the last version of the game unexplored, because there wasn't enough competition around it.

And I merely state these as examples as to why the NRS 2-year cycle does not allow us to get the most of our games.

Not everyone but a lot of players, offline and online, want an NRS FG with more years of active competition.

i am not against the idea that keeping fresh every new title by introducing new mechanics but that doesn't mean it is gonna be good for all players. There are many MK 11 fans who hates MKX, many MK9 fans who hates MK 11 or MKX also many MKX fans who loves only MKX. This situation proofs that the idea doesn't help to extend the playerbase, only refreshing it. if you love MK 11 you will probably hate mk12, let the past be your guide.

Feels like MK9 benefited a lot from not having much to compare it to at the time it launched.

What I see going on with NRS games seems pretty common in the FGC. Fans who love Game X typically don't care for game X+1. Fans of game X+1 don't care for game X+2, and so on.

I really enjoy what NRS has done. I think they've improved with each new game, and I like that they've made an attempt to try to continue to be innovative with their character design and mechanics. It doesn't always work, but I still enjoy the effort. I've played MKX, Injustice 2, and now MK11 and while each game is different I've had fun with each one.

I think Ed Boon is on record in an interview where his design philosophy for the MK series was to make each installment radically different to keep the MK idea fresh. I remember this interview in my head, no idea when it took place or if it even did, but i swear i remember him saying it.

Probably because they don't like stagnation or re using the same techniques that they did in the past

Yeah I remember too. He's said it a few times.

Fair enough for all opinions on this post. For the record I've played and enjoyed all nrs titles since mk9 and igau. My point was how they change core mechanics and other fun elements such as tons of stage fatals crazy combo paths to discover things like that. By no means is this a bash mk 11 thread. I enjoy mk11, just as I did mkx and injustice 2. I just feel mk 11 feels toned down just doesn't have the fun factor to me as mk9 igau. Were those games broken absolutely no arguments here but I still found myself enjoying the matches even against kanal Sonya and Cyrano. It's like any movie sequel og is always tough to beat. This is just an opinion, as most post are on here. But hey I appreciate then opinions

I like that NRS changes things up, I just wish they would change up the right things. Feels like all too often NRS tries to fix shit that ain't broke.
I appreciate the attempt of switching up the meter system, since now high level play can actually see Xrays with Fatal Blows. It's too bad they made the mistake of making them rechargeable on block/whiff so you're protected from making a bad read.
I also don't like the fact that your meter only refills off a timer which removed all strategy of building meter. Sure does make balancing moves a lot easier tho, huh NRS? Now you can design all the moves you want that hit a billion times and only worry about chip damage. Speaking of, at least Last Breath was a good change.
Maybe D1s didn't need to be -13 on block like in MK9, but it's a million times worse that they're like -5 now.
Why don't they try changing grab techs to not be 50/50s?
Why did they change breakers to be so awful that they had to implement a whole new mechanic later on to counter said awfulness?
WHY IS STANCE SWITCH STILL A WHOLE ASS BUTTON THEY COULD USE FOR SOMETHING ELSE?
NRS really needs to stop changing shit for the sake of change and be more thoughtful about what they're changing and why.

NRS should’ve kept the Boon/Tobias DNA, making just adjustments to the mechanics and avoiding “stupid guests” who don’t have anything to do with the MK Universe, instead they could’ve just developed plenty of MK characters that are not as popular but with good potential Havik is a perfect example he has that MK feeling all over him but hasn’t had much of a chance.

Anyway, next year is the 30th MK franchise anniversary and in the perfect world I would want an MK 30th anniversary Special edition

“MK2 and UMK3” playable on a good network, this would bring old fellas back to the game and a new fresh MK. I’d pay big bucks for this.

my .02 cents

I've been saying for the longest Stance Switch should get swapped out for a taunt button. NRS games have dozens of idle animations that you will never see because nobody will ever stand still long enough to activate them. Throw them on a button. MK is all about disrespect, so throw some flavor in there
