What's new

No turtleling on KI3.

Where's TJ Combo?
I think its a really bad Idea, why should I get punish for playing smart, for playing defensive, footsies, spacing, counter attacks etc?

As much as I love rush down and hate braind dead Zoning, I think a fighter wihout zoning and rush down cant be a balanced fighter no matter how you put it. I dont want safe zoning like on mk9 or injustice i mean smart zoning like ssf4 etc.
Anyway I just got home from work and im a little tired but im not liking this no no turtleling thing, what do you guys think?

Edit: watching this got me worried a little bit since im a very defensive player.

Or you could play smart while being aggressive, but as seen with scorpion people have the reaction times of tortoises

I thought Killer Instinct wall all about rush down, isn't that what most people who like KI wanted?

That is exactly how I play Kung Lao on MK9, agressive but as safe as possible.

...but I really think that the game should also have good defending tools too, give us pushblock, good aas, good pokes, good projectiles, good wake ups and revelsal attacks etc.

People (especially the tournament players that tried the game) were using footsies, spacing, and whiff punishing in the demo gameplay at E3. Please check it out before you jump to conclusions :)

And as far as wakeups and AA's.. Jago has a Shoryuken.. Ken Lobb was AA'ing all day. Not sure what was missing.

I have been checking it out and im loving every aspect of the game but i just watched a clip and this guy working on ki3 said they want no turtleling at all. They dont want you to block too much otherwise you will get punished hard.

Anyway thanks for the constributions, im way too hyped for this game, I just want it to be very balanced so it can be taken seriously at tournys!!!

Oh if thats what you mean, they have all that. You have to remember though KI is about knowing the mechanics down to the T, thats why they have combo breakers that give consequences. They also said there will be zoners and projectiles on block seem to give alot of meter (which will be adjusted).

I dont think there is pushblock though, dont see the point really

The attacks barely do any chip damage right now.. They barely do any damage at all.

But like I said this in another thread: damage and frame data are all going to end up being changed anyway, since the game is in pre-alpha.

As of now, the system is mainly about using combos with enders to open up the real damage. So you don't get a ton of damage for the first few hits of the string, but the farther you go in and the more you build the combo meter up, the bigger payoff you get when you succesfully use an ender.

I understand, they have been saying they want our feed back and thats what im doing( im not complaining at all)
Btw did you watch the vid? At the end they say they lots of things r gonna chip you out and give your opponent meter on block cause they dont want turtleling at all.

Yeah -- I can see the part about building meter for sure. Damage-wise it seems they're leaning toward conservative because some of the strings and combos are so long; but I guess we'll have to see.

In either case, footsies will probably reward you a lot more than turtling in this game.

Well playing defensive and counter attacking is part of footsies... I'm not taking about projectile zoning, just straight up I blocked right or made you wiff a move now i will punish you...

wait wut? how is turtling not possible if nothing does any fuckin damage in this game? Sounds like turtling would be pretty good, get a big life lead and then do nothing for 30 seconds other than play pure D, my kind of game

Yeah, but 'footsies' generally implies that you're trying to hover just outside of your opponent's attack range and catch them as they try to hit you or move -- rather than simply staying put and blocking all day long. In a Killer Instinct game, that's twice as emphasized :p

Watch the vid on the OP. they saying this game will reward aggressive play style. If you block and do nothing you get chip out and your opponent gets to build 20% of meter for each block projectile!

The SF4 Guile and Ryu player on me is kinda worried! AE has spoiled me so much with good normals, good and fast aas, revelsals and stuff lol

sounds like there's going to be backdash invulnerability in KI3, so jump/duck fireballs and punish their approach, and if all else fails you have invuln backdash to get away

Even if you get hit... so what? as long as you have a 1 combo life lead worst that happens is that you are now at even health with a lot of meter while your opponent has none...

but everythings subject to change so who cares. wait for the full release to come out

I agree with you for the most part, but do realize that Jago can get a full combo from a hit confirmed projectile from full screeen.
Anyway thanks for the input, cant wait to see the final build.

Too old for this Shit
As long as a character can block there is always then option of turteling... Really has nothing to do with projectile zoning at all.
