21122

Kombatant
As a fanboy I say pick up 21122 (Erron Black!). All his variations are great and he is badass.

Just pick whoever you like!

the reason why she is such a good beginning character is that it teaches you how to run cancel, something that can carry over to nearly every character and is massively helpful, it forces you to learn it and get used to it for her bnbs, it gets you used to micromanaging your stamina bar and why it is so important, yeah she isnt the easiest character to learn for beginners but she does the best at teaching beginners the mechanics of the game through learning the character
well that is one school of thought but i don't think that a beginner necessarily needs to learn run cancels from the start. For me learning run cancels didn't matter as much as actually understanding how the game's hitboxes /gravity/ dial-a-combo system works. I never played a mortal kombat game before, i'm a tekken guy and i got a way with mashing my combos because i would always do the right input at the right window. I play this game and the game doesn't forgive that at all , dial-a-combo system took me forever to get down so for me run cancelling i didn't get down until later, i kept trying it but just couldn't do it. I don't think it is a necessarily hard and fast rule that a beginner needs to learn run cancels combos from the start. I feel like for me that was too much - I think that's sort of what EntropicByDesign was saying too. For me I wasn't trying to get as much advantage with the least amount of work it was just run cancels was just too brain boggling for me on top of everything else.

im not saying that they need to learn it from the start, hell in match most people new to cassie just alternate through a couple strings mashing the shit out of them and never doing her combos, it is that it gives them these mechanics to learn as they learn the character, they have a character that has something for each aspect of the game, zoning, (hollywood or spec ops) rushdown (literally every variation) space control (once again every variation) the character is probably the most flexible character in the game, she is the jack of all trades, she can literally do anything and do it fairly well, it allows beginners to experiment and see how they like to play all within one character, and the variations only have minor changes that drastically changes the characters playstyle, while still being able to carry your knowledge from one variation to the next so learning a new variation isnt as intimidating as say kenshi where literally none of the combos are universal, in my opinion she is the best possible candidate for a person trying to pick up the game, she can be played at a low level and still succeed and has a lot of depth and takes a lot of time to master completely, she is pretty much everything one would want out of a character when picking up a new game, or at least again in my opinion

Ain't nobody trilla than shootah.
According to my display pic you should pickup jax. Just mash 1 d4 and overhead and you'll win.

Ps that's my troll account and I pretend to be a new player as I mop the floor in ranked matches, don't tell me how to have fun with this game:DOGE

EntropicByDesign

It's all so very confusing.
Yeah, its all player specific. Some people are motivated by characters like Cassie that are playable 'out of the box', but have a steep learning curve before the 'rest' of the character explorable and useable, as well as needing to learn several important universal skills..

Honestly the same can be said for A-list cage,, RCs, combos , stamina micro management, fireball cancels, etc, where-as he DOES have a functional out of the box game. Just f24 d1 f3 np and set up a guaranteed 11, then run a mixup off that and just.loop back in to a np. You can lab the combos in no time if you keep them hyper as simple as string in to np. Save your meter for breaking combos or armored.np

I think a good learning character depends on your point of view. Cassie has a lot of learning properties, but her ex Flipkick becomes a crutch and does the opposite of teach good meter management and wake up habits. Maybe that stuff isn't necessary at first. But if I was looking for a definitive learning character I'd pick someone else. Kung Jin is in the same category IMO. I think Kotal was actually a really good suggestion - just stay away from Blood God lol that's like a game inside itself
