Bojutsu Kung Jin is a good place to start for beginners. Easy combos, good poking tools, 50/50s.

Cassie Cage is the ultimate beginner character.

Good footsie strings from b2 and b1.
An overhead and low she can combo into. F3/df1
A good reversal (ex db2).
Can convert off of anything into regular db2.
An alright d4.
6f normals.

She's got everything you need, except to deal with sub zero.

I hear you, but her run cancels might be a little bit difficult for begginers.

I feel like War God Kotal Khan is about as simple as it gets execution wise. Plus, you will have to learn how to get around good zoning early on, which is an extremely important skill.

You say you want to go online, but please don't get disheartened if you go into Ranked or the player lobbies and lose to a bunch of crap on poor connections. The connection bars aren't a good indication of a good connection, so you'll run into a lot of super laggy matches on 4 bars. The best thing to do is find people on TYM to play and give you tips. You'll develop faster that way too.

Indeed. Also, find out if there are any locals nearby where you live.

There's not much to be learned playing War God Kotal though.

Why does she struggle against Sub?
Like wouldn't Spec ops do a good job of it?

Where are you from? Do you play on Steam? If everything's new to you, any character will be a struggle, so just follow your heart and pick the one you like the most.

It's all so very confusing.
Cassie is difficult to pick up for a new player, execution-wise, which can be very good, or very bad, depending on the player.

Imo the best character is the one you enjoy the most. That said Cryo Sub, Bojutsu Kung Jin, Kotal (SG or WG) are good places to start in terms of execution and effectiveness. Though Cryo's gameplan can be misleading.

Also, do you play on Steam or one of the consoles?

lol no. Run cancel BnBs aren't for beginners. Sorry Foxy, the correct answer was Bojutsu Kung Jin.

play co-overt ops sonya
Run in and spam b+1,4 and b,3,3 combos and make sure you end everything after in 124 so the oki is extremely easy

Also neutral consists of tk divekicks which nobody can block online, Now this right here is the real depth of the character if you think they're going to do a reversal do ex parry so that way you can still combo YAY!!

Cassie's probably a good introduction to run because while she requires it, it's not overly difficult. At least not like Cage or D'Vorah.

Agree with Foxy that run in this game is important to the level of "you need it" even for a beginner. It's every bit as essential to a beginner in Mortal Kombat X as cr.MK~Fireball is to a fresh Ryu player in Street Fighter.

Most of the time it's better to end with 21u4 (or 22~EX Arc Kick). Alot of launching armored wakeups in this game, and b33 is weak to backdashes. Better to focus more on carrying them to the corner where she gets more damage and the opponent can't backdash. Then oki them to death.

LBSH Cassie spaces herself out to all the right ranges she needs from most of her normals.

You're gonna have to learn to run in mkx, and hers aren't exactly hard, b12 flip run b12 special.

I agree depending on the player. If he has good execution coming from other games he will pick it up in no time, if he doesn't and is new to fighting games (in a competitive, non mashing way) it could be difficult to learn, that difficulty motivates some people and frustrates others. Some don't mind to grind out, some just want to hit the ground armed with as much (percieved) advantage as.possible with the least amount of work.

Now, Cassie can do work doing nothing more than a string in to a special but, just sayin.

Was pretty surprised to find a lot of people online agreeing with you about Cassie being a good character for beginners because i didn't find her very intuitive or 'beginner-friendly.' Kung Jin gives you the easy njp, the 111 cancel into EX bow which i feel are good beginner tools. Kung Jin has run cancel combos but they aren't as integral to the character as Cassie - run cancel combos are still hard as hell for a beginner i dont think they should try to get them down on top of everything else from the start but instead learn them a bit later. But yeah you have a point, my bad for being obnoxious- Cassie though was hard for me to get down, i thought i would never be able to do her combos.

the reason why she is such a good beginning character is that it teaches you how to run cancel, something that can carry over to nearly every character and is massively helpful, it forces you to learn it and get used to it for her bnbs, it gets you used to micromanaging your stamina bar and why it is so important, yeah she isnt the easiest character to learn for beginners but she does the best at teaching beginners the mechanics of the game through learning the character
