For the longest time, the staple for the Competitive scene has been that Online wins don't hold weight next to offline sets & tournament matches. This is generally when referring to the skill level of someone in relation to their peers. However, with MKX & the beginning of ESL it became the norm in conversation to bring up a player's ESL placings when ranking them on Best to Worst lists. It seemed rather odd considering a large portion of the competitive scene would often complain about online issues after each ESL event. However this is neither here nor there and that hypocrisy is overlooked.
Come March 1st, MKX's Season 2 DLC will become available and they will be ushering in an updated & more efficient Net Code. All over the MKX Beta has received strong praise from players of assorted skill levels. They're able to react, punish and land their tight link combos almost as easily as if they were offline.
So the question will then become, with Online receiving it's face list so to speak, will there be a shift in the previous mentality? Will losing a FT10 set against a player or a Tournament Match in an online setting become grounds to raise/lower someone's rank? With everything one is able to do in the beta, I would think so; it will be interesting to see what the 'rule of thumb' will be going forward.
