Two years ago NRS said, that "buying stages or exclusive characters for MKX is not a part of their plan right now". So, it also could be true. So, buying gear is not a part of their plan "right now". Do you smell it?
Thanks to Activision all developers are guilty until proven innocent. Two years ago NRS said, that "buying stages or exclusive characters for MKX is not a part of their plan right now". So, it also could be true.
I love NRS, and I think they get a lot of missplaced hate, but this is about their own track record. MKX had micro transactions that allowed to buy the krypt and easy fatalities, so I would be surprised (for good) if Injustice didn't have them for gear pieces. Thanks to Activision all developers are guilty until proven innocent.
You will just use the vanilla characters.Micro trans gear packs will probably be RNG. It's just such a profitable pay model that still skirts "pay to win" since technically you can earn them as in game drops albeit after a more significant time investment.
Truth be told, I'm ok with gear drops and RNG, it's unlocking special moves that I want more clarification on. I mean I get that a tournament mode normalizes stat buffs but what the hell happens with more nuanced mechanics like special moves?
I hope it's more than just tossing them away. I'd worry gearless play would end up feeling like being forced to compete in MKX variationless. Even if the base character is objectively solid, if it feels even a little like competitive players are playing less of a game, then that is going to be a problem. You will just use the vanilla characters.
THey simply won't have those special moves.
I would imagine most of the extra special moves will be either alterations of existing ones, stupid attacks like pulling a fucking gat out in Tekken, and a handful of really good specials that make people really pissed the vanilla characters don't have it.
I could totally see a vanilla character being garbage, but being sorta viable because of a extra special move that will never be allowed in tournaments lol.
Unless they create a several variations for characters(which they probably won't) I don't see how you can do it any other way.I hope it's more than just tossing them away. That pretty much turns into the preset concept people were speculating about in the beginning working as pseudo variations. That would probably work pretty well, but it sounded a lot more like they were just going to go vanilla.Unless they create a several variations for characters(which they probably won't) I don't see how you can do it any other way.
Letting people choose extra special moves on the character select screen is not a viable solution as it makes it a huge pain for tournaments.
Which is the real reason why gems sucked in SFxT.
Microtransactions don't have to be evil. MKX's were harmless. But like I said, NRS will have to literally lay out every piece of DLC gear before anyone will believe that.I love NRS, and I think they get a lot of missplaced hate, but this is about their own track record. @Kokoko
I imagine if a character is considered trash in tournament mode he might permanently get a gear effect as an easy way to buff them in a later patch. You will just use the vanilla characters.

I am also slightly bothered by the life bars. It's not a huge deal, but it just looks so....blah. I realize many people like a minimalist style, but it's just so bland compared to Injustice, MKX and even MK9.Also, it seems that they always innovate the HP bar look, this one looks a bit meh but I don't remember a lifebar design that wasn't good.
That that Kinda sucks, I'd love to see the gear stats in tournaments.Aww, well still cool looking.
Theyve said multiple times there will be tournament modes where the gear is purely for aesthetics and all gear effects are disabled. The stat boosts are for the scrubs
What did they do?Thanks to Activision all developers are guilty until proven innocent.
Destiny, most recently. But really nothing Activision has done in the past 9-10 years has been pro consumer. Their motivations are entirely profit driven now. What did they do?
