My Top Five Favorite Videos from my YouTube Career

Blue Blurs for Life!
It's been a little over three years since my introduction to the life of a video maker at YouTube, around the time I discovered my love for fighting games. I'm amazed to look back and realize how far I have come with my work. As of a month ago, my total uploads have crossed seven-hundred and my count of subscribers has hit the golden mark of five-thousand, and I'm now profiting off a solid partnership with VISO TV. Needless to say, the feeling of triumph is awesome, and I have full confidence that it will just get better from here on out.

To commemorate this occasion, I have decided to go through my uploads and hand-pick my personal top five favorites. I'll present them below while I give my reasoning behind each choice. This is in no particular order of preference.

1. Raiden Combo Collection Video - Released on May 20, 2012

I still look back and shake my head at the days when people said Raiden sucked, when in fact his design allowed him to go toe-to-toe with literally the entire roster in Mortal Kombat 9. The only characters who could make it feel not so 5-5 against Raiden were Sonya, Kabal, Johnny Cage, Kung Lao, and perhaps Kenshi, yet even then, those match-ups were possible for Raiden to win. Although I was recognized as a Sonya Blade specialist, Raiden was my second iconic character who I put much effort into. The desire to open people's eyes to the Thunder God's potential eventually pushed me to make this combo video after spending night after night in training mode with him. It remains one of my favorite works of art to this day.

2. Tech Review: Scorpion's Instant-Air Teleport Punch - Released on December 10, 2012

Just to clarify, the Scorpion we refer to is the one from Mortal Kombat 9, not Injustice. Now, the idea of using Scorpion's Teleport Punch as an instant-air attack had been known long before I made my video. In fact, it became common knowledge due to GGA Slips, who deemed the move as useless after experimenting with it. If you performed the move immediately after you enter the first frame for a jump from the ground, you would appear next to your opponent, the move would whiff even if they were stand-blocking, and you would recover instantly upon landing.

Now, as you might imagine, this was not such a viable tactic because like the rest of Scorpion's design, the risk/reward factor for this move was...terrible. All it would take was a slight walk back to block the teleport and get a combo punish. But during the time I mained Scorpion, I actually managed to make great use of this tech, online and offline, for various purposes. For this reason, I select this video as a favorite.

3. Scorpion Combo Collection Video - Released on March 20, 2012

Since the release of Mortal Kombat 9, I first made myself known as a combo specialist, and Scorpion was among the first characters I used to distribute combo videos...but back then, I felt there wasn't much I could do to push his combo ability beyond the basics. That changed with more experience in the game, as I watched more combo videos and picked up ideas from fellow Scorpions. Add that to the fact that Scorpion was the character that defined my MK childhood days, and you could imagine how much I wanted to see a full-length combo video dedicated to him.

Oh...and here's the comedy associated with this upload: an amazing combo artist by the name of JAP released his Scorpion video at the exact same time that I released mine. Can you tell that great minds think alike? ;)

So that you can get the chance to check out JAP's work as well, here is his video. I recommend you subscribe to his channel after you watch it. You'll be missing out on too much if you don't.

4. RM_GamerBlake (Raiden) vs. ray908 (Sonya Blade), Part 1 of 3 - Released on October 28, 2013

Just to clear it up, ray908 is the PSN tag used by TYM member xKhaoTik, and I'm sure he's gonna love this choice. In association with what I said about Raiden in my first item, I'd always wanted to spread knowledge of the character's potential, and KhaoTik is among the few who recognizes that Raiden can be a pain in the right hands. I do have to admit that these matches happened online, and KhaoTik's knowledge of the Raiden match-up was sketchy at the time, but that does little to dissuade how much we relished these matches. I wonder what you'll think when you see this?

5. EGP_Krayzie (Cyrax) vs. GamerBlake90 (Sonya Blade) - Released on February 28, 2012

Krayzie and I actually don't play sets often...I feel this needs to change, because each set with him does not disappoint. There would have been more fights than what you see in this clip if Glend hadn't needed to go at the time, but you gotta take what you can. I wish I could show you the set that he and I had at MLG Dallas when we competed at a side-tournament in which 1st place was worth $100 and 2nd place was $50, but unfortunately, it was not recorded. When fighting Krayzie, he always evolves throughout the set and forces me to struggle to keep up. This is no different when you fight his Catwoman in Injustice. :)

And so, these are my top five favorites that I'm glad to have released in my long YouTube career. I look forward to the thousands of uploads I'll be making in the future for as long as I am a gamer, a part of my life that I don't see myself forfeiting at all.

For those of you who follow my work - which of my videos are your personal top five favorites? Feel free to send in your posts with your choices. If you need to review my work first before making a choice, and/or if you don't follow it yet, just give my signature a click to go right to my channel. You also are not limited to selecting only MK videos as your favorites, even though all of mine are MK videos. LOL.

I remember watching shit tons of your MK9 content. Your sets with Sonya were amazing. I learned a lot watching your vids, from both you and your opponents. Still subscribed since 2011. You deserve the success, my friend. Congrats, and keep it coming!

You know something I just now realized?

One thing I regret not doing is uploading the Winner's and Grand Finals between me and WoundCowboy back when we faced off in the redo of Pig's MLG online tournament, in which the victor would be awarded the funds necessary to attend MLG Dallas. Of course, I was always resentful that I could never take a set off him no matter how hard I tried, but I never did let that stop me from uploading matches people considered good. And it would have helped his Shang Tsung gain the exposure he rightfully deserved.

Damn it. :(

You know, I'd like to see posts from you guys that contain your favorite videos from my channel. I'm curious to know.
This is a great idea, I actually already did this in my own thread. We should make a Top 5 thread for your fav YouTube videos from YOUR own channel.

Also, great video choices Blake, I must say, I have taught you well in the ways of YouTube.

it's a strange new world, isn't it? yes, people have youtube careers and do quite well for themselves, especially when its used as a secondary career. gonna go through some old vids of yours, blake. I have watched so many youtube gameplays that it's hard to remember favorites.
