Rebel without a scene
It's no secret MKX online is... Laughable to say the least. There are pretty much 2 metas at this point on for online and one for off. In this online meta, players are able to play the game in a way that simply would not lead to results offline. It also seems that certain characters have a particular way that all players play them in an online environment, some more annoying and head scratching then others.
Mileena: Roll after blocked Roll
Usually when I get a flipkick blocked as Cassie, I'm holding block praying I don't get punished. Clearly I'm doing it wrong. I should take a page out of mileena's book, and do another yolo roll after the first one is blocked.
Kitana: D1 after blocked point blank fan.
I know I'm -8 after a fan is blocked, but this is online MKX, where frames go to die, let me just D1 to continue my offense.
Kung Jin/ Ferra Torr: NJ punch
I love match starts against online Kung Jins. There is nothing more predictable then a match start against Kung Jin. NJ punch FTW. I'm pretty sure Jin has a lower back tattoo dedicated to NJ punches. And why Torr is allowed to swing Ferra around like a rag doll is beyond me. Someone please call child services and report this brute.
Full Auto Jacqui: Gunshots
Not much explanation needed here. It's always a treat though to see how the react once you're in their face.
Inferno scorpion: block strings into low minion/teleport
Sure, block strings into low minion may catch the poor online scrub enough times to boost that ego. Sadly, inferno scorpion drops a few tiers offline or against a knowledgeable opponent. They also have a tendency to get a bit antsy from full screen, especially with that online adrenaline flowing, leading to a few to many teleports. Pretty much this
Grandmaster Subzero: Ice Klone/Ice Ball/Slide
It saddens me to think of all the players who have lost to the noob trap that is Klone/Ice ball pressure. It seems that online grandmasters are only the masters of Klone, slide, ice ball, and overhead. As with full auto Jacqui, it's always a real treat once you get in on them and show them what the game is like without a shield in front of them.
Slides
No matter the character, if they have a slide it's GOING to be used early and often in an online environment. Better watch your toes.
D2
Online sometimes follows this simple to understand flow chart. Am I being pressured? Yes. Do I know what to do? No. Answer? D2. Also works as the perfect online combo ended, try it it's great!
Jumping
Let's consider my options. I could back dash, but that's lame and costs stamina. I could forward dash, but why do that when I can run, which also costs stamina. I know!!! I'll just jump all over the place. Jump in punch gets blocked? Lemme just cross up jump just to see if this works the second time. I know I've gotten NJ punched and trip guarded 5 times in a row, but this worked on the last guy, my lucks bound to turn!
Wake up X-Ray
Sometimes when online I like to play a game called "don't get hit by the X-Ray." It basically consists of hitting your opponent with 2 or more consecutive combos while going for a flawless, watching the opponents meter, and once they are at 3 bars, trying to predict when the yolo "screw you and your fancy combos" x-Ray is coming. Because trust me, it's coming.
Whole cast: pokes
Block fan? Poke. Kotal blocked shoulder charge? Poke. -7? poke. -11? Poke. Poke gets blocked? Poke again. Seriously the online scenes obsession with poking is very much real.
This are just a few. What do you think? What are scrub online tactics do you see the most often?
