For those who were unaware, Mortal Kombat X got its first live showcase via Twitch TV at the PAX event. Nothing new was shown (unless you count the firsthand look at the introductory conversation between Kano and Raiden before their match begins), but we do get treated to gameplay discussions while the players demonstrate two matches: Scorpion vs. Sub-Zero at the Snow Forest and Raiden vs. Kano at the Jungle. While you likely are not a stranger to how each character's variations work by now, it may nevertheless intrigue you to give the below videos a look, especially if you couldn't catch the stream on time today.
Thanks to @Ara Saf for sharing these videos. Remember to follow www.twitch.tv/twitch as PAX coverage continues through this weekend! More notes will be taken whenever MK:X hits the spotlight.

Scorpion vs. Sub-Zero
Kano vs. Raiden
What this tells us about Raiden
- He has orbs in his Master of Storms variation that can be placed at midscreen range but at jumping level meaning that he can connect launching strings into the net for a continued juggle combo. This is nicely shown by the raiden player d2ing Kano into the net.
- Raiden's Thunder God variation has way more hits than most people thought, raiden does a 25% combo that contains 22 hits!
- Displacer variation's delayed teleport recovers while Raiden is not visible-this could potentially allow for a guaranteed throw (if you delayed teleport next to them and throw they won't be able to tech on reaction. Possibly also a free 50/50 if raiden has one.
- We see his forward throw for the first time and it's ok I guess
- His flying thunder god move does 5% in 2 hits which is much lower than in mk9 (10%)
- Interestingly, raidens EX projectile sticks around for a few seconds after hitting the opponent, this could mean that he can get 2 hits/uses of it with only a single ball of electricity. Also it does 15% in 9 hits, this could be his best tool for unbreakable damage.
- Raiden has a behind orb (at jumping level) in master of storms- this could be perfect for anti cross up setups and possibly hitting them mid combo and breaking the combo if they leave the ground early(e.g kano's Mb grenade bnb as shown here and in his reveal trailer would be broken as Kano would jump into the orb as he hits raiden with an air-to-air).
- Raiden's EX flying thunder god adds 3% to get a total of 8%. A waste of meter unless you need it to kill or want to show off, the exception is maybe for positioning or knockdown scenario.
- In Displacer, when Raiden teleports his hitbox INSTANTLY changes(1-3 frames possibly),as shown at 1:21 where Kano's ball goes straight through where Raiden just was, this means that it will be almost impossible to punish and will probably be as broken as we hoped it would.
- Raiden's delayed teleport can take him off screen? He's shown causally walking back into the viewable part of the stage at 1:27...I'm not sure what to make of this but it could have a lot of potential.
- Raiden could have a low-overhead string as shown at 2:05, looks like you can hit confirm a superman midscreen but get good damage with a bar or 2 in the corner.
