@Gooberking What do you mean by "Variation Images?"

I have yet to install it since I currently have the Steam version installed, but when I next format my PC (which I do with ever bi-annual Windows 10 update), I may install the Microsoft Store version over the Steam version. We'll see.

You mentioned you bought the game four times; which platforms? Wouldn't that be all of them then: Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series S/Microsoft Store PC, and Switch?

Yes, PS4, Steam, Switch, and now MS.

By variation images I mean the images of your character wearing the outfit and gear you selected for a variation. As shown when you pick your variation at the character select screen

Ah, yeah, I've noticed on PC (Steam), the Gear in those pictures goes back to the default a lot. I want to say it's consistently stayed on Xbox Console.

I got around to installing the Microsoft Store PC version yesterday and compared it to the Steam and Xbox console versions.

Overall, this is the Steam version of the game developed by QLOC and Shiver and simply put on a different distribution platform, with cross progression to the Xbox console version added and certain other features reduced.

  • It has all the graphic options and benchmark present in the Steam version, including screen space reflections, 60 FPS options for intros, outros, Fatal Blows, Krypt, etc., and yes, disabling v-sync is in both Steam and Microsoft Store versions.
  • Cross progression with the Xbox console version does indeed work, which is very neat.
  • Interestingly, for naming Variations, it uses the PC word filter and not the Xbox Live one, meaning you can bypass the more strict Xbox Live word filter! You can use the word "Blood" in your Variation names on Xbox, as these will sync back up to console thanks to cross-progression.
  • Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass Ultimate is not required for online play, so you can play online for free just like on Steam.
Bugs I've encountered so far, and troubleshooting/resolution:

- The game will not download Story Mode by default, as noted in the official FAQ. Manually downloading it via "Managing the game" as indicated in the FAQ is indeed the resolution. The neat thing there though is you can manually uninstall Story Mode all nice and official from the launcher and save yourself around 19 GB of HDD space.

- Cross progression for the Race Against Time seems bugged. I played on Xbox console on Monday, and yesterday on PC. It would tell me the Race Against Time had ended, but not give me my reward. Every time I'd go to Towers of Time, it would do this. The resolution was to go sign in on Xbox console, and the rewards were awarded.

- Further to the Race Against Time cross progression bug, completing Towers in the PC version will not increase your Race percentage when on console, but it will show the number of towers completed. I'm wondering if this has to do with the PC version lacking leader boards and thus, being a semi-different eco-system, screwing up that cross progression.

- A major bug I encountered was after launching the game, none of my DLC was present despite being installed. From the Xbox App, the game's main screen defaults to the base version of the game. This is the case normally for said App, and it doesn't matter as it will always load with the DLC you own/have installed, but here the game seems bugged where it won't. The resolution is beside the "Play" button, select "Choose Edition" and manually select "Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate" and the game will load just fine with all your DLC. Also note you only need to do this once, loading the "base" game afterwards properly loads with your DLC as it should.

@Gooberking , I think you were mentioned something along those lines in your above posts, and I was confused by what you meant because this is a bug and not a normal function of the app. It's unfortunate the first game you've played in the ecosystem has this operational issue.

Overall, the game plays very well, though I also can't see it overtaking the Steam version at this time since it's going to have a smaller player pool. If they add full cross play with Xbox consoles (i.e. Killer Instinct), I believe that would change.

Not sure I follow the dlc not loading situation.

For me I had some cloud progression sync issue with my PC that a Windows reinstall corrected. After that I haven't noticed any content access issues though it's likely we went about stuff a little differently.

I did notice something most people won't care about I assume includes all MS apps. I constantly use the MS Gamebar app to manage app volumes. Windows keeps track of volume levels per exe and it's easy to just get a list in game and move levels around.

This version it can't remember my levels for and resets them every time. I only noticed because I happen to do things that specific way.

I assume it has something to do with the way they sandbox their apps.

Okay. For Game Bar and sound, I actually do that with Killer Instinct specifically when I'm recording during my Socials. It does not keep volume levels between sessions though, so I just assumed it was something you always needed to set.

Yeah, it typically remembers. Caused a problem for me awhile back when it was pretty buggy. It would stop showing the volumes and I had something muted and didn't know how to fix it. Eventually found the same per app sliders are in Windows Settings. The gamebar is just super easy to pull up anywhere and any time.

So one thing I've noticed that is kind of annoying is the game is syncing gamma settings between PC and Console. That's a local setting if there ever was one.

It was only a matter of time that it was going to happen.

Still...MK11 is still promoted everywhere on Xbox it’s always on sale & its DLC during literally every major sale Xbox has it’s never not on sale.

There was a patch for the Xbox version yesterday, and according to the game's official Discord, it looks like limited Krossplay has been added between the Microsoft Store (PC) and Xbox versions of the game.

I have not be able to test this though or see what limitations there are.

It is. Source.

I just don't know to what capicity the krossplay is implemented. i.e. special rooms only, matchmaking, ranked, etc.?
The fact they don't specify if it's partial or not, and MS's network is probably all connected regardless of platform, chances are strong it's the whole thing. It would be a bit of a mistake to say PC(MS version) users can play Xbox players and not mention restrictions.

I may have to bounce around later when I can and see what's up

If you do get a chance to test it, post here and let us know!

I actually did look at it last night. MS store PC is the only way I could get into online menus since I don't play for online services on the consoles. That makes it harder to confirm anything on my own(I'm sure someone out there somewhere has it all figured out). I didn't see any of the Crossplay toggles on the online options you see for Xbox to PSx crossplay (had to look the menus up because I couldn't quite remember). That normally would lead me to believe it's everything since I couldn't find anything highlighting it as an option in any way. No way to turn it on or special places to go that seemed obvious.

However, there were a whole 3 people in lobbies so unless it's total ghost town on MS everything, then maybe it's only showing MC PC lobbies which I actually would expect nobody to be in.

I don't know how to really say without paying for console online which I'm not interested in doing. If I did I could compare lobby counts and see if a KL season record was transferring. Though if literally nobody plays on Xbox, then I'm not sure this is much help to anyone. I could see arguing for moving to the MS PC version for PC if it meant the player bases both got a boost, but it's also a slightly annoying to use version I'm finding, and if there is no major player base boost then it would be a too little too late, why bother thing.

Yeah, I don't have Xbox LIVE Gold either, so can't confirm myself.

This looks to be it. Xbox has about 3 or 4 rooms with 20-30 people + a number of others with 2-5 in them.
Is this on Xbox One or Xbox Series? Both platforms are different, but feature Krossplay in the same manner as Krossplay between Xbox One and PlayStation 4. So Kombat League for each is seperate, just like PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Not sure what's going on... but as of today i can't seem to get a game. Yesterday there was ranked matches one after the other rarely waiting more than 1min, today nothing.

Same with kasual - 10mins+ no fights.

Also the Krossplay designated rooms aren't showing up on Xbox?! - Restarted and they're back. And they're gone again.

It's like everytime you connect you're on a different server, sometimes with, sometimes without.

What do you mean they're separate?
Online play for Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles are separate. They use the same Krossplay functionality as an Xbox One to PlayStation 4 (so only via specific Lobby's).

So if you're playing on an Xbox One and que up for a Kombat League Set, and I'm on an Xbox Series X and que up for a Kombat League Set, we will never be matched together because we're playing different versions of the game. If we both go to the Krossplay Lobby though, there we can play.

Interesting, although i'm going question that, only for the reason that I got a Series X last week. I'm playing against a number of people that i was playing the previous week on the One. Odds that they all jumped from One to Series the same week is extremely unlikely.

Also, the load times for some players is about 1sec (Series vs Series), others have a longer load time, the same as when I was playing on Xbox One, with a "waiting for opponent" notice (Series vs One).

That is odd. I play Multiplayer on Steam, not my Xbox consoles as I don't have Xbox Live Gold, so I can't verify first hand. What I posted was taken from a) the Krossplay FAQ provided by WB Games Support, and b) verified by the moderators on the game's official Discord.
