I got around to installing the Microsoft Store PC version yesterday and compared it to the Steam and Xbox console versions.
Overall, this is the Steam version of the game developed by QLOC and Shiver and simply put on a different distribution platform, with cross progression to the Xbox console version added and certain other features reduced.
- It has all the graphic options and benchmark present in the Steam version, including screen space reflections, 60 FPS options for intros, outros, Fatal Blows, Krypt, etc., and yes, disabling v-sync is in both Steam and Microsoft Store versions.
- Cross progression with the Xbox console version does indeed work, which is very neat.
- Interestingly, for naming Variations, it uses the PC word filter and not the Xbox Live one, meaning you can bypass the more strict Xbox Live word filter! You can use the word "Blood" in your Variation names on Xbox, as these will sync back up to console thanks to cross-progression.
- Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass Ultimate is not required for online play, so you can play online for free just like on Steam.
Bugs I've encountered so far, and troubleshooting/resolution:
- The game will not download Story Mode by default, as noted in the official FAQ. Manually downloading it via "Managing the game" as indicated in the FAQ is indeed the resolution. The neat thing there though is you can manually uninstall Story Mode all nice and official from the launcher and save yourself around 19 GB of HDD space.
- Cross progression for the Race Against Time seems bugged. I played on Xbox console on Monday, and yesterday on PC. It would tell me the Race Against Time had ended, but not give me my reward. Every time I'd go to Towers of Time, it would do this. The resolution was to go sign in on Xbox console, and the rewards were awarded.
- Further to the Race Against Time cross progression bug, completing Towers in the PC version will not increase your Race percentage when on console, but it will show the number of towers completed. I'm wondering if this has to do with the PC version lacking leader boards and thus, being a semi-different eco-system, screwing up that cross progression.
- A major bug I encountered was after launching the game, none of my DLC was present despite being installed. From the Xbox App, the game's main screen defaults to the base version of the game. This is the case normally for said App, and it doesn't matter as it will always load with the DLC you own/have installed, but here the game seems bugged where it won't. The resolution is beside the "Play" button, select "Choose Edition" and manually select "
Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate" and the game will load just fine with all your DLC. Also note you only need to do this once, loading the "base" game afterwards properly loads with your DLC as it should.
@Gooberking , I think you were mentioned something along those lines in your above posts, and I was confused by what you meant because this is a bug and not a normal function of the app. It's unfortunate the first game you've played in the ecosystem has this operational issue.
Overall, the game plays very well, though I also can't see it overtaking the Steam version at this time since it's going to have a smaller player pool. If they add full cross play with Xbox consoles (i.e.
Killer Instinct), I believe that would change.
