If there's going to be AI fighters in MK1 to do towers, AI battles, etc. I hope they figured a way to make it continue automatically. I'm not going to train another lazy cat to hit continue everytime a fight is over.
Oh my god dude I PRAY AI fighters is a thing of the past. That was such a massive waste of time. God I hated unlocking those skins. "Set your game to play itself and hope you get something" Who in the fuck thought that was fun

The AI fighters specific game mode can go. But the AI fighters in general Towers can stay. The AI helped carry my ass through the toughest towers in Towers of Time need them to stick around.

Fuck towers of time, straight up lmao

It’s shitty, but I’d much rather they just do an expanded in game shop and let you buy whatever skin you want from there. Have an in game currency you get from playing online and exchange it in the shop, and since it’s WB you can have your real money currency too. Because tbh id rather drop 5 bucks to just get the skin I want as opposed to hoping and praying it’s in the ToT, and then let my AI do it for an hour.

Good luck with that. I've seen actual NRS people state that the stats show that "LOTS of people play ToT", and the rarity of the shop is probably trying to artificially force repeated engagement with the game and not intended at all to be a place to satisfy the players' need for content. Not sure why they wouldn't support a paid unlock outside of the criticism that naturally comes with it.

Game does ask a lot for its content. I gave up on caring about getting anything in particular right away. As long as I had some decent options to choose from I was fine with leaving lots, maybe most stuff, locked.

as someone who mainly played single player in MK11, ToT did a lot right, but also a lot wrong. Love the ability to have stuff to do after I beat the story. Spent a lot of time messing around in the towers with different augments, then jumping into The Krypt and exploring. Really liked having the static character towers where you could unlock cosmetics for any specific character you want. Also liked the "Race Against Time" as a means to unlock the Time Krystals (hated when they put skins I actually wanted in it tho) but again, it's not like it was an issue cuz I didn't mind playing through the towers cuz I mainly played offline anyway. I can't imagine how annoying it must've been for ppl who played online.

It's nice that they're putting a lot of effort into providing more for offline players, but there should be a balance & a lot less grind.

I just want a way to unlock stuff while playing online only. Whether that's some online specific currency or whatever it is, just don't force me to fight 20 AI opponents and their million assists just to get one specific skin I want. I would even prefer if it was random in online than being forced through offline. Like win an online match - get random piece of gear for a character you won with. Or maybe as a bonus also get the gear your opponent was wearing for their character as in you stole it for winning.

Oh no I definitely agree, nor do I expect them to do anything like that, it’s just what I would prefer. I loved how they did towers in MKX and hell even INJ2 was fine (though pushing it), but ToT just got stale to me, to the point where yeah I didn’t even gun for a lot of cosmetics anymore

I just really like how a game like Dead By Daylight handles it. You can get most skins in the game through just playing, and licensed crossovers are paid for with real money. It’s just convenient. But, I know NRS won’t do that, and it’s like the least of my concerns right now anyways

I dig the menu music and i love the idea of Mortal Kombat going back to Asian aesthetics. I hope scorpion and sub-zero kinda end up looking a bit more different from each other. (they look like they are from the same clan)

I don't know what to think of kameo's, i just hope this game has konquest mode and allows for normal one on one combat as well.

Boy do I have some bad news for you

I really dig this idea. I think it should be across the cast. X wins with x character in kasuals grants 1 common or uncommon gear piece for the character you played where as say 100 wins will grant a rare.
Maybe ranked wins can give brutalities or round win taunts etc and it works with each character to give you incentive to play other characters.

All this of course could also be unlocked offline as well.

Hopefully they are looking into cross mode progression more, because it was a huge complaint for 11 and they kinda addressed it when they added the secret towers that offline players could complete to unlock Kombat League gear. If you were an Online only player tho you got fucked unfortunately. Your character isn't in the current season of unlockables? GGs, better luck next month

I do wonder how MK1 is going to impact the rest of the Mortal Kombat tournament scene in the long run. I actually like that, right now, MKX and MK11 both have competitive scenes and dedicated players. I want MK1 to be amazing and to do great, but I also don't want it to cannibalize the other games if they have passionate players that want to continue playing those games competitively. Having variety is good, and I hope we can continue to have that.

For some reason I ended up doing the heads challenge twice, and had to unlock Frost 4 times because I actually had all the versions. I'm still tired

Regarding unlocking stuff:

I think it's actually an interesting discussion. On the one hand, I can see the merits to having a system where everything (in terms of skins, gear, cosmetics, brutalities/fatalities) can be unlocked with $. As someone in his late 30's with a family and full time job, I sympathize with people not always having the time to straight up grind away hours into the game to get certain gear. Sometimes it'd be nice to get that cool outfit without having to log 100+ hours, especially if it's in a game mode that I don't care for.

Depending on the tediousness of the grind, it can also come across as a bit petty or even scummy when a game dangles something tantalizing in front of you but forces you to try what feels like a Sisyphean task to try and unlock the "cool" gear. So again, having some kind of microtransaction/$ transaction can help counter that.

On the other hand though, I can respect a game for saying "hey, we made this game with the intention that people play it. Valor should be earned, not bought, so some gear will simply be super rare and challenging to get, with no assurances that you'll be able to get it. If you want to 100% the achievements, put in the hours, or accept the fact that you can't get everything you want in life".

I guess what I'm asking is, should a game be obligated to give players a 100% ability to reasonably unlock everything they want, or is it ok for a game to be designed with the idea that some items might be too difficult for the majority of players to unlock?

The devil's always going to be in the details, and it's always going to be pretty subjective. I can't make any conclusions either way, I just find it an interesting conversation. I thought MK11 was fine, I grinded for a couple Raiden gear things and didn't think it was too bad, but I'm also not really a completionist and I don't care about gear/cosmetics as much as some. People usually are good at figuring out optimal ways to farm stuff, so that normally helps too.

I keep being surprised by people trying to get a specific item and think some people feel a need to 100%. If there is enough cosmetic content, then I'm not too concerned about having everything personally, which probably helps quite a bit.

As a base idea, I actually like the idea of some content not being atainable except through some accomplishment. Like having and elder god skin that is basically an award not everyone is supposed to have. Then someone finds a way to get it by "alternative means" and it doesn't really mean much so maybe there isn't a lot of point.

Tekken 7 unlocked everything at one point after a certain amount of play which is another strat.

For me, the worst kinds of unlockables are ones that are randomized or only appear at certain times. I absolutely hate when I see a cosmetic that I like, then when I look up how to get it it, it's like, "Oh, remember that super busy week where you had no spare time? Well, it was available for a limited time then to those who grinded or bought enough currency. So you missed out, but don't worry, keep logging in every day and maybe in six months you'll get another chance to get it."

And obviously any sort of lootbox or pseudo-gambling mechanics are predatory trash as well meant to suck as much time and money out of you as possible. The ability to buy in-game things has butchered game design beyond recognition.

Sure SOME gear should absolutely be locked behind a specific challenge to make it unique, that means offline and online. Online players only getting Kombat League gear is simply not enough. I mean if you aren't an Elder God player you can't get everything anyway. And that gear later also became obtainable offline. That is just not fair, the other way around should be a thing too. Keep Kombat League gear specifically locked to Kombat League and make few good gear pieces locked in hardest towers so offline people can brag too. But must of it should be obtainable to both parties in their respective game modes.

That was always only a rumour, and one that, while not impossible, seemed less likely since it's not a Sony-only title.
True. Although they will be showing third party during the showcase, mk was never guaranteed to be there. This doesn't mean mk won't make any appearance at all though. We could get another teaser before the full reveal June 8th. If not it's no biggie. There's plenty of PS stuff I wanna see that'll more than likely be in the showcase anyway.

Again, while anything is possible, I don't expect to see anything at PlayStation or Xbox events since this is a huge multiplatform release.

I think it’s kinda dumb of NRS to release a trailer for MK1 on may 18th and then supposedly have 3 whole weeks of radio silence with no news or anything at all and release the gameplay trailer on June 8th.
Not sharing anything with a 3 week gap after releasing a trailer with nearly 5M views on YT and probably more views on other platforms is quite bad from a marketing standpoint. NRS should do something about this.

They should either drop the gameplay trailer earlier or should’ve released the initial trailer later. I think these 3 weeks are just stupid.
They really just dropped the trailer, did a mini stream answering question and dipped out.
