MORTAL KOMBAT X MOBILE EQUIPMENT GUIDE V1.14

Introduction to equipment

Equipment plays a MASSIVE part in Mortal Kombat X mobile and can make a huge difference between winning and losing at times. These items can improve your card’s offensive or defensive capabilities and at the same time can increase resistance against the opponent’s damage / debuffs inflicted on you in battle. These combined effects are the key to giving you the upper hand even against tougher teams which have good gold cards at pretty good fusion levels.

Types of equipment cards

If you tap on a character card, there are equipment slots available to place an equipment card. For bronze, silver and gold tier cards, you are given 3 slots and are allowed to equip only 1 weapon, 1 armor and 1 accessory card. However the diamond tier cards introduced in the 1.9 update are given 4 slots. In addition to the 3 default slots which are similar to the other tiers, the extra slot allows you to add an additional equipment card which can be of any type.

At any given time, a particular equipment card can only be used by one character and cannot be shared. The 3 types of equipment cards are:

  • WEAPON – These cards are essentially different types of weapons like a knife, sword, gun etc or a signature weapon of a character. These cards are mostly attack boosters; i.e. they increase unblockable attack chance, basic damage, attack or critical attack chance. Some cards have additional perks which also apply. Rare equipment cards carry an additional character exclusive perk which works only when the particular character mentioned on the equipment card is using his / her signature equipment card (eg: Kitana's Bladed Fan, Mileena's Razor Sai, Kenshi’s Sento Blade etc).
  • ARMOR – These cards are essentially health or toughness booster cards and increase the health or toughness value of the character beyond what the current character level and fusion level provide. These are helpful especially for weaker cards to improve their stats to help them last longer in battle and at the same time they make strong cards even stronger than ever. In addition to the health / toughness boost, the card also can help reflect enemy attacks when blocked, increase recovery rate or reduce the opponent's chance of inflicting critical attack damage.
  • ACCESSORY – These cards add secondary perks to a character in addition to the damage and health/toughness boosts that the weapon and armor cards provide. The perks range from increased power generation, additional damage increase in specific situations, increased recovery rate and increased resistance to negative effects.

Equipment Tiers

There are 4 tiers to grade equipment capabilities from weakest to strongest

  • COMMON – These cards are the easiest to obtain and provide only one property which is applicable to all cards. These cards provide only one perk compared to the higher tier cards. The common cards have a base value of “1” when first obtained and increase their value to “12” when fused to level X. There are 10 of them in total.
  • UNCOMMON – These cards offer better improvements in the perk effects and are slightly harder to obtain compared to the common equipment. These cards have 2 perks, one is unlocked by default and the other is unlocked only at fusion level X. The uncommon cards have a base value of “5” when first obtained and increase their value to “20” when fused to level X. There are 10 of them in total.
  • RARE – These cards are the ones that you should strive to obtain as these are the best equipment cards in the game and each of these equipment cards is a signature card which symbolizes something that has a unique relationship with a specific character. They are hard to obtain and take a long time to fuse.
These cards have 3 perks, one is unlocked by default, one is a signature perk which only takes effect when the character whose name is mentioned on the equipment card uses it and the last one is unlocked only at fusion level X. The rare cards have a base value of “15” when first obtained and increase their value to “33” when fused to level X. Currently, there are 30 of them available.

  • EPIC – This card tier has the best stats compared to any equipment card in the game and was first added with the 1.3 update. This card has 3 perks, 2 of which are unlocked by default and the last one is unlocked only at fusion level X. The epic card has a base value of “30” when first obtained and increase its value to “50” when fused to level X. There are 7 cards available currently in the game.
The Wrath Hammer which was the first ever epic equipment card can only be exclusively obtained from the Equipment Pack. The 1.8 update added 3 new epic equipment cards, Bloody Tomahawk, Bloody Shokan Armor and Bloody Voodoo Doll. The 1.9 update added a new weapon equipment card called Datusha, Bane of the Moroi. The 1.11 update added 2 more cards namely Devastator and Blaze's Life Force. These are exclusive to the Faction Wars store and can only be purchased using Blood Rubies earned from playing Faction Wars.

Obtaining equipment cards

There are 6 ways to obtain equipment cards

  • Test Your Luck – In addition to pulling koins, souls, bronze cards or the launch console exclusive unlocks, you can also randomly pull the common equipment cards. Uncommon ones also do appear at times but are rare for the most part.
  • Equipment Pack – With the 1.3 update, an Equipment Pack worth 70000 koins has been added to the store to make it easier to have a chance at obtaining rare equipment. A single purchase gives you 3 random equipment cards. This pack is the only way to buy and fuse the pack exclusive epic tier equipment called the Wrath Hammer. All 4 tiers of equipment cards can be bought from this pack.
  • Kard Pack / Kombat Pack / Alliance Pack – These 3 packs randomly drop an equipment card when you open one sometimes. The Alliance Pack randomly drops COMMON cards. The Kard Pack randomly drops both COMMON and UNCOMMON cards. The Kombat Pack can randomly drop RARE cards too in addition to the other two lower tiers but the occurrence of that happening is low.
  • Faction Wars Season Rewards – Based on your leaderboard ranking, you are awarded a certain amount of equipment cards and the higher you rank, naturally the better the rewards. Prior to the launch of the Equipment Pack, this was the only way to obtain RARE equipment cards if you are ranked in the top 7% or better in your faction’s leaderboards in a season.
With the 1,8 update, you need to rank in the Kontender I leaderboard tier or higher to receive RARE equipment cards from the rewards.

  • Faction Wars HARD / FATAL ladders – On completing a 5 battle hard / 7 battle fatal ladder, if you are lucky, you can be awarded with a COMMON or UNCOMMON equipment card.
  • Faction Wars store - With the 1.8 update, a new Faction Wars store has been added which contains 3 Faction Wars exclusive equipment cards which are the Bloody Tomahawk, Bloody Shokan Armor, Bloody Voodoo Doll, Datusha - Bane of the Moroi, Devastator and Blaze's Life Force. These can only be purchased and fused using Blood Rubies earned from playing Faction Wars. Each of the cards cost 400 to 450 rubies per purchase

Fusing equipment cards

In Mortal Kombat X mobile, equipment cards can be fused by purchasing the same copy of an equipment card that you already own. This increases the boost %age amount of the perk(s) that the card gives by 1% or 2% depending on the card. Once a card reaches fusion level X, the card has reached its maximum capability. At this level, uncommon, rare and epic equipment cards unlock an additional perk which takes effect immediately. Any further purchases of a fusion X equipment card are automatically sold for koins.

Equipment card perks

WEAPON

As far as weapons are concerned, using a weapon that increase your chance of unblockable attacks is the best choice. In Faction Wars, the AI difficulty has been tweaked and they tend to block a lot more than before, which makes these weapons really useful.

Of all the weapon equipment cards in the game, only Kitana’s Bladed Fan, Kenshi’s Sento Blade, Erron Black's Revolvers and Shuriken increase the chance of unblockable attacks. If you have these equipment cards, they make the card on your team equipping it perform block breaking basic attacks to be able to deal more damage easily. With the addition of the Wrath Hammer however, Shuriken is least likely to get used due to the benefits that the epic card gives you and will very likely take its place. These are effective against all characters which is why they are highly recommended.

On the other hand, the other weapon cards only have perks against specific types of teams (Spec Ops / Martial Artist / Outworld) which forces you to keep changing cards depending on the category of the opposition character cards which becomes a hassle after a while.

ARMOR

This one comes down purely to personal preference. The only two aspects that get a boost here are health and toughness.

Toughness reduces damage taken from basic attacks. With the case of specials, as long as the toughness of the card along with the gear exceeds the damage dealt by the opponent’s special attack, then having a toughness boost is effective. Signature equipment cards like Body Armor, Cybernetic Arm, Bladed Hat and Storm Hat provide a 45% toughness boost when fully fused. On the other hand, cards like Hockey Mask, Military Vest, Power Glove and Saurian Armor provide a 35% health boost when fully fused.

In addition to a boost in health or recovery, the rare tier armor cards also provide perks like a power generation boost (helps build your power bar faster in battle), recovery boost (recovers health faster when tagged out), chance to reflect enemy attacks and reduce the enemy’s chance of critical attacks.

While it’s highly recommended for a character to use his /her signature equipment to be able to use the equipment’s signature property, it’s totally up to you to use whatever boost you really need and what works best for your team in battle.

ACCESSORY

These cards for the most part provide a power generation boost (helps build your power bar faster in battle) or recovery boost (recovers health faster when tagged out). Cards like Bound Demon and Soul Medallion provide a power generation boost while Killer Wasp and Subtle Tattoo provide a recovery boost. Red Headband and Shinnok's Amulet provides both.

In addition to these, the higher tier cards also provide perks like reduced power bar consumption on special attacks, healing chance on special attacks or increased damage against poisoned or bleeding enemies.

Equipment Combinations

Due to the vast number of equipment cards to choose from, there is no combination which is considered the perfect combination as its always open to debate. Each player may have a certain play style which may favor one combination over another.

Below are some powerful combinations focused on getting the maximum boost possible for perks like power generation, damage boost or unblockable attacks. Only the rare and epic equipment cards will be covered below as the uncommon and common ones are very likely to be ignored completely once you have all the rare ones at good fusion levels.

Below are some of the key benefits which are the ones you should consider when working out equipment combinations that would best suit your team in battle to have the most impact and give you an upper hand even against tougher opponents in Faction Wars.

INCREASED POWER GENERATION

Increasing power generation is probably the one that will be widely used as it becomes easier to get access to your character’s special attacks as they deal the most damage in battle and the sooner they are available for use, the better chance you have of winning. All characters have a default power generation rate of 100% with the exception of Assassin Kitana and Ronin Kenshi who have a 120% power generation rate.

None of the weapon cards provide power generation boosts so its based on your armor and accessory combinations to maximize the boost amount. Of the armor cards, the only card that also provides a power generation boost is Storm Hat which gives a 20% power generation boost when it is at fusion level X. From the accessory cards, Bound Demon, Red Headband, Soul Medallion and Shinnok's Amulet (only if used by Shinnok) provide a 20% power generation boost. The Bloody Voodoo Doll provides a 25% power generation boost at fusion level X. So if the above armor and any of these accessory cards are used together, you get a 40% to 45% power generation boost which can make your power bar fill up rapidly.

With the diamond tier cards, the power generation boost can be further increased. With 4 usable slots, you can get a 65% power generation boost if you use Storm Hat, Bloody Voodoo Doll and any of the above mentioned accessory cards.

If a character is equipped with the Wrath Hammer / Bloody Tomahawk / Devastator (only if opponent team share a common class) weapon and one of the above 4 combinations while being teamed up with characters like Balanced Kenshi, Shaolin Kung Jin, Mournful Kitana, Revenant Kung Lao or Hellspawn Scorpion, you start with 2 bars of power (2 1/2 if using the above weapon and are teamed with Hellspawn Scorpion) and can rapidly build up power quickly enough to perform an X-Ray attack. Additionally Spec Ops cards can gain an additional 20% power generation boost by having High Tech Jacqui Briggs on their team.

INCREASED BASIC DAMAGE

Basic damage is the fundamental damage that you deal to your opponent in battle through combo attacks and it helps to build your power in the process to be able to then excecute a special attack to deal a lot more damage.

While each card deals a certain amount of basic damage based on their stats at a specific level and fusion, that limit can be increased using specific gear combinations. Of the weapons, Combat Knife, Ice Daggers, Kobu Jutsu Blades and Sacrificial Knife provide a 50% basic damage boost. Of the armor cards, only Cyber Armor provides a 25% basic damage boost. Of the accessory cards, only Subtle Tattoo provides a 60% basic damage boost but it takes effect only if it is used by Johnny Cage.

If a combination using the any of the above mentioned weapons along with the armor and accessory is used, you can get a 135% damage boost if used by any Johnny Cage card and 75% if used by any other character (accessory can be anything in this case).

INCREASED RECOVERY

Increasing recovery may not be something that majority of players will focus consciously on but nevertheless it can be boosted to a good amount if required to help speed up health regeneration and power build up when tagged out. Of the armor cards, the only cards that provide a recovery boost are Tarkatan Gi which gives a 45% recovery boost and Saurian Armor which gives a 50% recovery boost when they are at fusion level X. From the accessory cards, Killer Wasp, Red Headband, Subtle Tattoo and Shinnok's Amulet provide a 45% recovery boost. So if the above armor and any of these accessory cards are used together, you get a 90% to 95% recovery boost which can make your health recovery and power generation when tagged out much faster.

With the diamond tier cards, the recovery boost can be further increased. With 4 usable slots, you can get a 135% to 140% recovery boost if you use Tarkatan Gi / Saurian Armor and 2 of the above mentioned accessory cards.

INCREASED DAMAGE ON BLEEDING / POISONED ENEMIES

Bleed and Poison are DOT based attacks that drain health gradually over time. However when an enemy is under the influence of bleed or poison, you can further pile on the damage on them and finish them off quicker using the appropriate equipment combinations. Of the weapon cards, Bojutsu Staff, Razor Sai, Sacrificial Knife and Shaolin Bow provide a 25% damage boost against poisoned or bleeding enemies. Of the accessory cards, only Killer Wasp provides a 25% damage boost against poisoned or bleeding enemies. So if any of the above weapons and this accessory card are used together, you get a 50% damage boost against poisoned or bleeding enemies. This is really helpful for characters that cause poison or bleed namely Venomous D’Vorah, Swarm Queen D’Vorah, Wretch D'Vorah, Assassin Kitana, Shaolin Kung Jin, Piercing Mileena, Ravenous Mileena, Nimble Reptile, Noxious Reptile, Shaolin Master Kung Lao and Dark Lord Kotal Kahn.

With the diamond tier cards, the damage on bleeding/poisoned enemies can be further increased. With 4 usable slots, you can get a 75% damage increase if you use Killer Wasp and any of the above mentioned weapon cards. Ravenous Mileena can be very strong if she uses this gear combination.

If Noxious Reptile or any of the other Outworld cards on his team use the above equipment combination, you get a 30% damage boost while inflicting poison / bleed attacks and then the 50% damage increase from the gear takes effect once the enemy is under the influence of poison / bleed.

INCREASED DAMAGE IN FACTION WARS (i.e. PvP)

Grinding Faction Wars is essential in order to earn a good amount of currency rewards and equipment. The more wins you have, the better your battle rating and the higher your rank. To be able to have an edge against your opponents, certain equipment cards can increase a character's damage exclusively when playing Faction Wars. Of the weapon cards, Combat Knife, Sento Blade and Bloody Tomahawk provide a 15% damage boost in PvP. Freddy's Glove provides a 20% damage boost if maxed out. Of the armor cards, only the Bloody Shokan Armor provides a 10% damage boost in PvP. Of the accessory cards, only the Bloody Voodoo Doll provides a 10% damage boost in PvP.

Using any of the above mentioned weapon, armor and accessory cards together on a single character can give it at least 35% damage boost in Faction Wars. If Freddy's Glove is used, you get a 40% damage boost.

COUNTERING X-RAY STARTING TEAMS

With the addition of cards like Hellspawn Scorpion, Klassic Raiden and Bounty Hunter Erron Black to the roster, it is possible to face teams where more than one card can start the match with an X-Ray attack ready.

If the character that you start the match with is equipped with the Devastator and/or Blaze's Life Force equipment, you can steal 50% of their power and/or cause power drain and burn damage at the start of the match which will prevent them from triggering their X-Ray immediately. This massively helps especially if you are not using a power drainer on your team and end up facing such opponents in Faction Wars.

CHARACTER PASSIVES

Lastly, you can also make use of character passives that help the entire team in boosting damage, health, toughness, critical attack chance, starting power or bleed/poison damage to further augment the boost you get from the equipment cards.
