With information from content creators still pouring in from their trips to GamesCom in Cologne, Germany our friend over at MKUniverse.lu got a very nice interview with Ed Boon. With this interview being over 15 minutes in length with really awesome questions we have made a list of key information throughout that we have listed below. One bit of information has never been heard before...

Key notes:
- completey new story-line that follows Mortal Kombat 9 jumping 5, 10, 15 up to 25 years in the future
- story mode in MKX can be compared to MK9 in length
- Kotal Kahn is NOT related to Shao Kahn in any way. Kotal was ruling Outworld in a part of the story and has relationships with D'Vorah, etc
- Kano is not Lin Kuei (with how cybernetic/cyborg he is now)
- there will be no stage transitions in MKX, there will be single stages only
- stage Fatalities are likely
- @6:28 mark: NRS is entertaining a variation that has none of the features of the other variations, a bare-bones variation targeted at the pro players who "want to show off" - haven't decided yet
- tag team mode NOT likely
- New challenge tower NOT likely, however a new mode will be a replacement for the challenge tower
- New "Finish Him" graphics probably close to final
- Toasty guy returning? Boon mentions that the Toasty guy was put in to MK9 very late
- character endings will likely be the same, meaning no crazy CGI story endings due to cost
- No MKX demo news at this time, Boon states, "not that I know of"

Around what time does he say this?!

That's a ton sooner than I thought!!
May 2015 is the release window they're looking at. A Warner rep told me that it would definitely be released in May, but the devs told me that is just what they are aiming for.

If you want tolerance and understanding, these definitely aren't the droids you're looking for. The only person who gets to have a difference of opinion and not get torch and pitchforked around here is REO and maybe the Terrys.
Wrong. TYM is not an elitist community. If you think this way, you'll find every staff member on this site disagrees with you.

Didn't know people actually cared that much about tag lol. Personally, yes it's fun but if they put a new kind of 4 player mode instead I won't mind it being gone. It's really best when played offline with friends honestly.

Besides it's not everything.

By "barebones" I'm pretty sure he means that you get the vanilla version of a character. Like you only have the universal moves and such.
lol I thought it was the opposite like no special moves only their regular moves, sweeps, and strings. That would be cool though if they did it that way too, klassic MK 1 and MK 2 style, no strings, fancy stuff just special moves.

Is this topic itself not enough evidence that the "staffs" perception of its own community is incorrect? Or do you need to front page another max video and see what happens?

Front paging Maximillian's videos is a sign of being elitist? I don't really know how to respond to that.

Bare bones no variation sounds like an excellent idea. Think of it like training fro your core essentials so you really understand your character's fundamentals. That was when you add a variation, you can focus on adding the bonus of the variation rather than just relying on it. This sounds like a fantastic learning tool.

The Bare bones thing is cool.

It's one of those where it's like, why not put it in and not need it than want it and not have it?

It doesn't seem like it would be too hard since your just removing features on characters.
(Although I have absolutely no knowledge of game design and how much work this would actually be. I'm just theory crafting so correct me if I'm wrong)

I can see it now. Running sets with @GGA Saucy Jack and getting bodied and getting salty. Then he goes to character select and bodies me with bare bones kano and makes me regret ever picking up any fighting game ever.

I think he is referring to the responses that the Max videos get on here. Like "Why are you posting this, he's a SF player…" and "We don't need him to promote our game, he doesn't even play, bro!". Stupid ELITIST responses like that are pretty common when the people that this community regard as outsiders try to get involved on the NRS/MK scene.

Oh! That makes more sense, thanks. ...well, it makes more sense in the way that I can actually understand it.

If anyone on here can't handle hearing information, thoughts, and theories from someone who doesn't necessarily frequent TYM 14 times per day then I would just say too bad fellas, suck it up. Maximillian is great.

Agreed. Max is a fantastic person to have on this games' side. Let's hope he enjoys it, and widens the fan base (competitively). We could definitely use it!

Max is definitely cool, just sometimes I disagree with him on things like "MK is the one fighter that has problems or weird animations" I don't think that's true at all. There various other fighters with issues as well.
