They're very different. MvC, for example, has mechanics like wave dashing, aerial combos, and infinities out the bootyhole (in mvc3 at least). The only similarities i can think of is that mk9 tag team mode had assists and that injustice was back to block.
I think even if hadn't been Wii exclusive, it wouldn't have lasted very long since most people outside of Japan weren't familiar with the Tatsunoko. And once MVC3 was announced, the few people that were playing TVC pretty much abandoned it.

i meant that everybody expected a megaman game, but then they realize that Ryu was there, so, only the FGs guys were screaming, compare the noise when megaman showed up (first shot) with the last shot from the logo
