Killer Instinct's Orchid - How She Could Look Today

Hey guys, just wanted to say that it's super cool that you posted this up. I'm a huge MK and (obviously) KI fan, and it's pretty cool to get feedback from a bunch of people who are into the same stuff. Yes, the T-Rex is just a T-Rex, but I have thought about trying to tackle Riptor or possibly Fulgore. I think they both would be really cool to re-imagine. I always thought Orchid looked like a (mindblowing at the time) 1996 CG version of Paula Abdul in KI2, but I ended up using a bunch of faces as reference to end up with what you see there now. And given more time I would have totally done the whole Orchid flashing fatality thing, lol. Thanks again!
Hey Ryan,

I randomly came across this whilst performing my usual hunt for any new Killer Instinct Orchid initiatives on the net. Hell, these days I feel like a depressed Jodie Foster from Contact (you know, constantly searching out there with hope) and boy do I feel like her today - except its like the bit when she actually discovers life out there!

Anyway, as one of her biggest fans, I wanna say thanks for creating her, the costume looks really tech based (almost matrix-esque) and I'd love to know what was your inspiration for it. Also her face looks sexy as hell - the hair the lips etc. really nice and I know from my friend how hard hair, eyes and faces are to get right.

Good luck with any future projects.

Thanks everyone for watching, it really is thrilling to see that people like the stuff I make! punchbags: Thanks! My inspiration was really twofold. First, I wanted to create a female model to show form on my demo reel. And of course, I'm a huge MK and KI fan, so it was just a matter of picking who I wanted. MK was already being rebooted, and I didn't want to do something that was already being done. Orchid was the obvious choice to me just because she was one of the iconic characters in a comatose franchise. I thought the idea of re-imagining her for today would be challenging and allow me a lot of latitude to do what I wanted. My inspiration for the costume was a little bit Mass Effect (probably the matrix/futuristic influence), and a little bit doing research on the internet. I knew I wanted to get away from the lime green body suit because I thought it looked somewhat dated, so I went with a corset because it would keep everything in place, but still be flexible. I was going to do a skirt but doing the stuff Orchid would do in a fight with a skirt would probably not work out so well. Plus cloth is a pain to simulate. I added the hair last minute, and it's probably the part of the model I'm most proud of. Hair is a truly a beast, but at this point I've got her all rigged for animation. Thanks again everyone who watched :D .
