you guys are getting but hurt over nothing. You don't even know how much each character costs.
How many characters do you all seriously play in Injustice and that game was a whole $60, Not free like KI3 is going to be
I certainly gave all of them a fair shake in the lab before picking who I played. Can't do that here, can I? Should I just buy and try until I'm satisfied? Better hope there's not a better fit for me elsewhere.
Let's not even get into playing with other people on the same console, or hosting a competition that requires several setups.
Which isn't to say that I think there's no benefit to an F2P model in fighting games. But KI's model is simply not cutting it by any means.
Comparing it to other titles:
DOA5U gives us the option to actually buy the fullgame at regular price, while also offering a F2P model. This gives DoA vets that already have a character they specialise in an advantage, while also providing convenient means for TOs and new players to the series to get the full package at the price they're used to. There are 4 free characters available, the extremely popular mascots of the series.
Tekken Revolution comes out tomorrow and has scant details on it, but I currently believe that it's not really meant to be a tournament game (mostly due to the leveling system in place), which is all well and good. It's seems like a fun little supplement to introduce peopel to the crushing world of Tekken. I could get proved wrong, but I must say that logistically it seems like it'd be a tough game to run for reasons not dissimilar to KI's. That aside, it comes with 8 free characteres (it seems, anyway), many of which are either staples are extremely popular new blood.
How can KI's lackluster attempt to break into F2P fighting be excused, looking at these? Jago's not what i'd even consider top 5 iconic for his franchise, and he's the sole option for people curious about the game to play? Please. It doesn't have a modern fanbase, the game is brand new. People aren't going to be able to just buy a "main" because they don't have one yet.
I'm complaining because I'd like to see a western IP succeed that isn't NRS, even if I don't play it. Tekken and DoA have had games in the last few generations: KI hasn't. This is its chance to break back into the limelight and establish a modern fanbase, and the developers are squandering it with this awful decision making and risk taking.
